Preface
The role of foreign direct investment initiatives is pivotal to effective enterprise development. Globalization, accelerated by information technologies, has increased the speed of business transactions and has reduced the distances between international businesses. This growth has transformed the realm of foreign investment in countries around the world, calling for a methodological approach to planning feasible capital investment proposals in general and foreign direct investment projects.
Staying informed of the most up-to-date research trends and findings is of the utmost importance. That is why IGI Global is pleased to offer this four-volume reference collection of reprinted IGI Global book chapters and journal articles that have been handpicked by our senior editorial staff on this topic that will shed light on critical issues related to the importance of global stocks to economic structures and the effects that these holdings have on the financial status of nations by providing both broad and detailed perspectives on cutting-edge theories and developments. This reference is designed to act as a single reference source on conceptual, methodological, technical, and managerial issues and provide insight into emerging trends and future opportunities within the global business market.
Foreign Direct Investments: Concepts, Methodologies, Tools, and Applications is organized into eight distinct sections that provide comprehensive coverage of important topics. The sections are:
- 1. Fundamental Concepts and Theories;
- 2. Development and Design Methodologies;
- 3. Tools and Technologies;
- 4. Utilization and Applications;
- 5. Organizational and Social Implications;
- 6. Managerial Impact;
- 7. Critical Issues and Challenges; and
- 8. Emerging Trends.
The following paragraphs provide a summary of what to expect from this invaluable reference tool.
Section 1, Fundamental Concepts and Theories, serves as a foundation for this extensive reference tool by addressing crucial theories essential to the understanding of foreign direct investments. Introducing the book is Incentives to Attract Foreign Direct Investment in Emerging Economies: A Causality Analysis for the Indian Case, by Ishita Ghoshal (Symbiosis International University, India) and Ishita Ghosh (Symbiosis International University, India): a great foundation laying the groundwork for the basic concepts and theories that will be discussed throughout the rest of the book. Section 1 concludes and leads into the following portion of the book with a nice segue chapter, The Fundamentals of Neuroeconomics by Kijpokin Kasemsap (Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Thailand).
Section 2, Development and Design Methodologies, presents in-depth coverage of the conceptual design and architecture of foreign direct investments. Opening the section is An Integrated Model of Perceived Risk and Risk-Reducing Strategies in the Tunisian Stock Market: Risk-Behavior Model, by Azza Bjaoui (University of Sousse, Tunisia) and Adel Karaa (College of Business Administration, University of Hail, Saudi Arabia). Through case studies, this section lays excellent groundwork for later sections that will examine present and future applications for foreign direct investments. The section concludes with an excellent work by Nkem Okpa Obaji (Department of Business Administration, Nigerian Turkish Nile University, Abuja, Nigeria), Aslan Amat Senin (Faculty of Management, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor, Malaysia), and Mercy Uche Olugu (Department of Statistics, Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan, Nigeria), Supportive Government Policy as a Mechanism for Business Incubation Performance in Nigeria.
Section 3, Tools and Technologies, presents extensive coverage of the various tools and technologies used in the implementation of foreign direct investments. The first chapter, IFRS Harmonization and Foreign Direct Investment, by Javier Vidal-Garca (University of Valladolid, Spain) and Marta Vidal (Complutense University of Madrid, Spain), lays a framework for the types of works that can be found in this section. The section concludes with Quantum-Inspired Computational Intelligence for Economic Emission Dispatch Problem by Fahad Parvez Mahdi (Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia), Pandian Vasant (Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia), Vish Kallimani (Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia), M. Abdullah-Al-Wadud (King Saud University, Saudi Arabia), and Junzo Watada (Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia). Where Section 3 described specific tools and technologies at the disposal of practitioners, Section 4 describes the use and applications of the tools and frameworks discussed in previous sections.
