About the Authors
Veerle Van den Eyndenmanages the Research Data Management team for the UK Data Service. This team provides expertise, guidance and training on data management and data sharing to researchers, to promote good data practices and optimise data sharing. She combines this with a position as Research Data Manager for the Global Challenges project Drugs and (Dis)order at the School of Oriental and African Studies. Veerle has many years of experience researching interactions between people, plants and the environment, using a combination of social and natural science methods, and has experienced first-hand the benefits that data sharing brings to research.Louise Cortiis an Associate Director of the UK Data Service and Head of the Producer Relations and Collections Development teams. She also leads qualitative data activities and directed UK Qualidata from 1998. She has 25 years of expertise in archiving, sharing and using social science data, and has particular expertise in the challenges of managing and sharing research data, standards for archiving qualitative data, and teaching with data. She has held numerous research awards in these areas focusing on best practice, training and tools.Libby Bishopis the Coordinator for International Data Infrastructures in the Data Archive at GESIS-Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences. She manages connections between GESIS and international data infrastructures, such as the Consortium of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA). She is participating in the Social Sciences and Humanities Open Science Cloud (SSHOC) project with a task on access to sensitive data. She publishes on the methodological and ethical issues of reusing and sharing data.Matthew Woollardis Director of the UK Data Service. He has practical and theoretical experience in all aspects of data service infrastructure, providing leadership in data curation, archiving and preservation activities. From 2002 to 2006 he was the Head of the History Data Service, and from 2006 to 2010 an Associate Director and Head of Digital Preservation and Systems at the UK Data Archive. He currently provides leadership and strategic direction of both the UK Data Archive and the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded UK Data Service.Scott Summersis a Lecturer in Business Law at the Norwich Business School (University of East Anglia), where he is the module organiser of (i) Business and Company Law; (ii) Practical Law for Managers; and (iii) Marketing: Social Responsibility and the Law. Alongside this role he sits on, and provides guidance and advice to, the UK Data Archives Information Security Management Group (ISMG), around data protection and other key legislation impacting on the Archives operations. Scott was formerly a Senior Research Data Services Officer at the UK Data Service, where he worked proactively with researchers, ESRC grant holders and Research Centres to achieve good data management practices and to optimise the sharing and archiving of research data. In addition, he developed protocols and guidelines, provided external training, and lead data protection compliance at the UK Data Archive.Maureen Haakeris a Senior Qualitative Data and Training Officer at the UK Data Service and lecturer in research methodology at the University of Suffolk in the School of Psychology and Education. She has growing experience of processing, analysing and publishing qualitative data, and is especially interested in the challenges qualitative data raise for data management and data sharing. More recently, her role at the UK Data Service has involved designing and delivering training on secondary analysis and data management of qualitative data. She is also currently completing her PhD in the Department of Sociology at the University of Essex.
