ACknowledgements
No one writes a book like this without some help. This has been a part-time, twelve year project that has challenged me to a great degree. This book wouldnt have happened without crucial input and feedback, from a select group of people and God almighty, who renewed my strength during times I felt like giving this project up. Thanks to everyone who had a part in this endeavor. I especially want to thank the following people:
Joan Alley- for your valuable knowledge of self-publishing, editing and formatting skills. You are the best.
Brian Peters- for your unwavering support of this project, our fabulous political discussions, and the great cover design.
John Gallick (brother-in-law)- for great political discussions, reading the book thoroughly, taking notes, and offering great suggestions on how to improve certain aspects of the book. Many of your suggestions were taken.
Kerry Gallick (sister)- for taking the time to read the book and offer important feedback.
John Eckenrode- for taking the time to read the book and offer significant feedback.
Cindy Kalinoski- for your editing and formatting expertise.
Dr. Jeffrey Frey- for taking the time to read the book and offer valuable input.
Loren Burch- for reading THE MIRACLE OF QRS with an open mind and giving valuable feedback.
Steve (brother) and Shelley (sister-in-law) McCloskey- for giving crucial feedback, which led to important changes to the books procedural format. Some of your suggestions led to substantial improvements to the book.
Cele McCloskey (wife)- whose grammar expertise and balanced voice kept me on the straight and narrow path.
Ryan McCloskey (son)- for supporting this project, reading the book, and offering important feedback.
Robert Zimmerman- for the insightful discussions and taking the time to read the book and express your opinion. Your input is appreciated.
The Grammar Police (you know who you are)- My writing style is not easily contained by the normal rules of grammar, so thank you, to those of you that made needed grammar suggestions.
Please know that your time and thoughts were greatly appreciated. All feedback was considered and much of it was used to make the book better. I cant thank all of you enough.
Blessings to all of you,
Scott
FOREWORD
Due to the nature of this nonfiction work and the subject matter, certain themes, phrases, words, and quotes are repeated. Many of the themes, phrases, words, and quotes that are repeated are necessary to emphasize certain points to the reader and to make each chapter complete.
I decided to self-publish this book after realizing that an unknown, thinking American with no platform has no chance to get a nonfiction book published by a traditional publisher. I am hoping that grassroots Americans in the heartland, and all over this nation will support this ambitious endeavor by one of your fellow citizens. This has been a twelve-year project that I hope was worth the effort.
As you know, Americas Federal Government is broken and dysfunctional, at the least. The politicians, political elitists, and media pundits in both of the major political parties are too entrenched in the current system to even realize how broken it is because they are consumed with their own power. No one that I know of is thinking outside the box to suggest substantial improvements to our Federal Government, until now. The purpose for writing the book is to return power to all classes of Americans (not just politicians, lawyers, academics, and party elitists) and to eliminate the adversarial two-party system that has hopelessly divided Americans. I call into question Americas voting process (a sacred cow) at the Federal level and explain in CHAPTER how it hopelessly divides Congress and the American people. Can you imagine what it would be like if there were no Republicans or Democrats fighting each other, only Americans working together to make our country as great as possible? Americans of all ages, on both sides of the political aisle can embrace the common-sense solution presented in this book to fix our broken Federal Government. I have no illusions that these major changes can happen quickly, but I want the debate started as soon as possible. Is it possible for America to have a much more efficient, less divisive Representative Republic? The answer is yes, and perhaps the individual States and a broken world could embrace this new government solution as well. When you read this book, it is expected that there will be agreement on some things and disagreement on others. I would urge you to withhold judgement and keep an open mind. The American history presented is unpleasant, but well documented and had to be told to illustrate how America has become so politically polarized. This political division demonstrates the need for a solution to fix our broken nation. While the reading is easy, government is a complex subject that takes time to mentally absorb. The reading is very informative and educational, but not suspenseful (we are talking government here). If you are a concerned citizen interested in how to make America and our Federal Government run much, much better, this book is for you. America will never reach her full potential unless the right systemic changes are made to our political system. I believe the Founders would agree.
Introduction
The following Statement may be shocking to you but the numbers back it up. Since our Constitution was ratified by the States in 1791, our country has been politically divided. In his Farewell Address to the young nation, George Washington warned of emerging political factions (parties) and how dangerous they would become. We have always had two major political parties in this country and the people have always been split about fifty/fifty between the two. Yes, it may be worse today, but it has always been divisive. How can this be you might ask? Let me give you an example. One of the biggest landslide victories in a presidential election was in 1984 when Ronald Reagan defeated Walter Mondale: 59 percent of the popular vote to 41 percent. The electoral vote was 525 to 13, which was how the President was chosen. However, this result says that over four out of ten people did not endorse Reagan or his policies. Switch one person out of the ten and we are back to a fifty/fifty split. This supposed landslide victory by Reagan still indicates deep division in our country. The election of 2000 (Bush versus Gore) was so divisive that the Supreme Court eventually had to step in and issue a ruling to stop counting hanging chads in Florida. Perhaps the most contentious election ever was the most recent one in 2016, Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton. The repercussions are still being felt today. We have always been politically divided as a nation and as the years pass by, we are becoming even more politically polarized as a nation, not less. Do you really have hope that our political system will ever improve? Is there any indication of that improvement?
