We dedicate this book to developing communities around the world who struggle against the odds and who aspire to a higher quality of life for themselves and their children. Our book is also dedicated to our parents and to their parents upon whom various injustices were inflicted in the name of development through centuries of colonization, and imperialism, and what may be termed bonded development.
**********
I dedicate this book to my husband Feisal and our son Farhaan, to my late parents, Ahmed and Amina Essack Gangat; my brothers Golam Gangat and Yusuf Gangat; and my sisters Bilkis Mohamed Kara, Fawzia Haroon Master, and Khairoonisa Yusuf Hatia who live in Durban, South Africa. I am grateful to them for the lessons they taught me about never faltering in adversity and embracing destiny with a strong spirit of resilience. My deep faith in God has always guided me in striving for fairness and justice in all things.
Fay (Feiziya) Patel
I dedicate this book to my wife Val, daughter Shiveta, and son Shival whom I thank for their ongoing support, love, and patience during the years that I studied in the United Kingdom and the United States. The book is also dedicated to my late father, Babwah Sooknanan and late mother, Kowsil Sooknanan.
Prahalad Sooknanan
I dedicate this book to my dear love, Brendan Duffy, our son James Francis, my parents Richard and Gail, and my sister Ria Rampersad who have been a tremendous source of inspiration, support, and love. Above all, I give thanks to God who leads me through my mission.
