China and the Global Financial Crisis
This book examines Chinas response to the 20078 global financial crisis and the resulting new status it has acquired within the international economy. It considers how China weathered the crisis, discussing the stimulus package it put in place and how Chinese banks coped, but above all it examines the measures which other countries look to China to put in place in order to better encourage and secure worldwide economic recovery: measures such as currency revaluation, tax reform and greater stimulation of domestic demand. The book contrasts Chinas response to the crisis, and its increasingly central role in the world economy, with the responses of the European Union. The book also assesses Chinas increasingly important regional role, in particular its dialogue with the new Japanese government and its positioning towards Southeast Asia, and discusses the growth of Chinese foreign direct investment.
