The founding fathers were those political leaders who were part of the American Revolution against the authority of the British Crown and established the United States of America.

George Washington

was the first President of the United States. He presided over the convention that drafted the current United States Constitution and during his lifetime was called the father of his country.

John Adams

was the second President of the United States. As a Founding Father he was a principal leader of American independence from Great Britain.

Thomas Jefferson

was the third President of the United States. He was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence.

James Madison

was the fourth President of the United States. He was known as the Father of the Constitution for being instrumental in the drafting of the U.S. Constitution.

Alexander Hamilton

was the chief staff aide to General George Washington. Hamilton was made the first Secretary of the Treasury.

James Monroe

was the fifth President of the United States. Monroe was the last president who was a Founding Father of the United States.

Benjamin Franklin

was considered the elder statesman by the time of the Revolution and later Constitutional Convention. He was a member of the Committee of Five that drafted the Declaration of Independence.

John Hancock

served as president of the Second Continental Congress. Before the American Revolution, Hancock was one of the wealthiest men in the Thirteen Colonies.
