Chapter 1: Understanding The Incredible Power Of The Human Brain And How Little Most People Use Of It

A world famous philosopher, Rene Descartes beautifully described the key function of our mind it is an important key in defining who we are. This notion used to be limited to the mere act of thinking, just like how most people view their brains. We think its only function is to help us think. Remember how youd only tap your head whenever you forgot your keys or when you need to remember item number 5 on your exam?
Indeed, the mind is one of the greatest mysteries of the human body, and even with all the advancements in research, much still could not be explained about our brains but were making a lot of progress.
Who among you told your friends that humans are only using 10% of their brains and felt really smart about that trivia? Sorry to break your bubble, but this is one of the most popular urban myths regarding the human brain. Interestingly, this originated in the early 1900s yes its that old and a lot of studies have already been done to debunk that theory, because the truth is were using the whole 100% of it, on a day to day basis. It is not just an organ with a specific function; its actually the main control system of your body. It is the driver of your whole nervous system. The brain is a complex of interconnected networks taking charge of your consciousness, your personality, your health, your daily functions, and basically of everything that you are. Yes, you THINK, therefore you ARE.
The more we are learning about the functions of the human brain, the more complex it becomes and the more beautiful it gets.
Lets start with a rundown of the basics what are the parts of the brain?
Neurons Just like the wiring system inside a supercomputer, neurons transmit electrochemical signals to the various parts of the brain and can do so over large distances to send messages to your central nervous system, your skin, and your muscles.
It is composed of the cell body, the axon, and the dendrites. The cell body composes the general mass of the neuron and contains the essential proteins and components (DNA, ribosomes, et cetera) to keep the neuron alive. Axons are the wires to the neuron, where all information flows from one point to another. Some axons have an insulation coating called the myelin that allows quick transportation of information on long paths. These types of axons are normally situated on our sensory and motor neurons in the brain and in the spinal cord. Lastly, the dendrites are web-like nerve endings that create the touch down connection to all the other cells.
Brain stem located near the neck, this controls involuntary functions like limb movements, digestion, excretory functions, and reflexes.
Cerebellum This makes use of data regarding your spatial recognition and balance to coordinate limb movements.
