PROCEEDINGS OF THE LOS ANGELES THEOLOGY CONFERENCE This is the fifth volume in - photo 1
PROCEEDINGS OF THE LOS ANGELES THEOLOGY CONFERENCE

This is the fifth volume in a series published by Zondervan Academic. It is the proceedings of the Los Angeles Theology Conference held under the auspices of Biola University, in January 2017. The conference is an attempt to do several things. First, it provides a regional forum in which scholars, students, and clergy can come together to discuss and reflect upon central doctrinal claims of the Christian faith. It is also an ecumenical endeavor. Bringing together theologians from a number of different schools and confessions, the LATC seeks to foster serious engagement with Scripture and tradition in a spirit of collegial dialogue (and disagreement), looking to retrieve the best of the Christian past in order to forge theology for the future. Finally, each volume in the series focuses on a central topic in dogmatic theology. It is hoped that this endeavor will continue to fructify contemporary systematic theology and foster a greater understanding of the historic Christian faith amongst the members of its different communions.

In memoriam:

The Reverend Professor John Bainbridge Webster, DD, FRSE

T HE EDITORS WOULD LIKE TO THANK Dr. Paul Spears as Director of the Torrey Honors Institute, and the faculty and administration of Biola University for their support for the Fifth Los Angeles Theology Conference (LATC) in January of 2017, out of which these published proceedings grew. Without the assistance of Jessamy Delling and Caleb Aguilera who oversaw much of the practical side of the event, this conference would not have run as smoothly as it did. We are grateful to them. Thanks too to Fuller Theological Seminary for its ongoing support of LATC. As with the previous volumes in this series, the editors wish to record grateful thanks to our editor (and colleague), Katya Covrett, for her invaluable assistance before, during, and after the conference proceedings. Thanks too to the Zondervan Team (aka The Z Team)Stan Gundry as editor-in-chief, Jesse Hillman, Kari Moore, and Josh Kessler.

We had hoped to have Professor John Webster as a plenary speaker at the conference. Sadly, he passed away in May 2016. John was one of the most important voices in the contemporary renewal of dogmatic theology; he will be greatly missed. The conference and this book are dedicated to his memory. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.... For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known (1 Cor 13:910, 12). Does the dogmatic task cease when we come face-to-face with the One to whom we are fully known? Perhaps it is only the beginning. No doubt John knows.

Michael Allenis academic dean and John Dyer Trimble Professor of Systematic Theology, Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, Florida. He holds BA, MA, and PhD degrees from Wheaton College.

Henri Blocheris emeritus professor of systematic theology at Facult Libre de Thologie vanglique de Vaux-sur-Seine. From 20032008 he occupied the Gunter Knoedler Chair of Systematic Theology, Wheaton College Graduate School of Biblical and Theological Studies. He was awarded a DD (h.c.) by Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 1989, and a DD (h.c.) by Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia) in 2014.
