Soul Hunger is good news for anyone tired of temporary gratification that leaves a bitter aftertaste. Prepare yourself for the kind of mouthwatering nourishment you were made to enjoy.
KURT BRUNER , author of Why Isnt God Nice? and It Starts at Home
As I began to read Soul Hunger I was fascinated by the concept of the book. The more I read, the more I was personally challenged to examine my actions, my decisions, my desires, and my heart. Ill be the first to admit that self-examination is not my favorite afternoon activity, but as I continued to read I became convinced it would be worth the effort. With highlighter in hand, I left my mark on page after page. And my conclusion? Reading Soul Hunger, digesting its content and concepts, can lead to life changes that will feed your soul and honor God.
KENDRA SMILEY , national and international speaker and author of several books, including Live Free: Eliminate the If Onlys and What Ifs of Life
If you are struggling with control, worry, insecurity, or feel trapped in habitual sins, perhaps you are battling deep idols in your soul. With great clarity and intriguing biblical illustrations, Otis explains how these destroying heart issues can be exchanged for Gods peace and genuine soul satisfaction. Soul Hunger is not a self-change manual but rather a captivating encounter of how God can change any heart if we choose to let Him. Go from dreaming about how you want your life to be to living with God fulfilling your deepest longings. Grab a pen, and curl up on the couch; let God begin filling your soul with genuine beauty and peace as you read.
SHARON HOFFMAN , conference speaker and author of six books, including Theres a Car Seat in My Convertible and The G.I.F.T.ed Woman
With great clarity, simplicity, and a heart for God, J. Otis Ledbetter, in Soul Hunger, meets a great need in life today. Far too often a new book comes out and there is very little that is helpful to the deep spiritual longings of life. This book is different. Every chapter is rich, understandable, and helpful. I appreciated how topics like happiness and truth were broken down and explained, and each chapter could be used for group and personal study.
DR. MARK MILIONI , president, Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary
What an incredibly refreshing treatment of an unpleasant topic! No one enjoys being hungry, but J. Otis Ledbetter provides a rich feast of truth to satisfy the hunger we all possess within. Not only does the author share deep and insightful truths concerning each of the hungers he deals with in each chapterhe fills each chapter with rich illustrations from both life and literature. You will be both challenged and blessed to find ways to satisfy your many hungers. In addition, the appendix is worth the price of the book!
BOB BURNEY , president and founder of CrossPower Ministries and host of Bob Burney Live on WRFD Radio, the Salem Media affiliate in Columbus, Ohio
Practical and compelling! Dr. Ledbetter skillfully unveils what often troubles our souls and derails our lives. Soul Hunger unleashes the practical power to fearlessly confront any confusion and disease that may be found at the root of everyday choices.
VIRGINIA DIXON , director of inner healing, Center for New Medicine and Cancer Center for Healing

My wife Gail and I, with the fervent prayer of hope,
dedicate this book to our next generation. To Riley Nicole,
Madalyn Rose, Abigail Grace, Ashley Brooke, Lauren Joy,
Lillian Joy, Samantha Gail, Alexandria Jane, Cassidy Faith,
Alexis Faith, Jack Thomas, and James Fenton.
To our grandchildren... may you turn to the fruit of
the Spirit to satisfy every hunger pang you ever encounter
in the course of your beautiful lives! In the imperfection
of our earthly lives we pray that through your grandparents and parents
you find the perfect peace that remains beyond all understanding!
Hardly a day has passed this last year that someone special to this project hasnt come into my mind. People like my wife Gail and my executive secretary Sherry, who have nurtured and protected the intellectual property contained on these pages in myriad ways. When the proposal was almost ready to deliver to my literary agent, Bob Hostetler of the Steve Laube agency, who held my feet to the fire to make the manuscript sing for potential readers, Thomas Womack carved out a week during the 2018 holiday season to use his editors knowhow to help make the notes on the pages fit the melody. Friend and fellow author Steve Van Winkle added research, stories, and his writing skills to help fill in places where reinforcement was needed. Then when Ramona Richards of New Hope Publishers read the proposal and decided to give it a go, the die had been cast. Now it all comes together in what I believe to be a beautifully architected manuscript, aided by these professionals, to place into the readers hands information I believe has the potential to change lives.
And I so hope it might do that for you.
CHAPTER 1
EVERYBODYS HUNGRY FOR SOMETHING
W hens the last time you were hungry? Truly hungry?
Was it painful? Did you feel a tightness or contraction in your stomach? Were you dizzy or faint? Agitated or irritable?
