PART ONE

Awakening to the Infinite Journey of Soul

The reality of our afterlife is far more exciting than my humble words can express. We are all approaching a magnificent journey of consciousness beyond the body. For many of us, the time has come to expand our awareness beyond the beliefs of our youth and explore our own amazing spiritual existence. Always remember that we are powerful beings who possess the ability not only to create our current environment, but to shape our continuing existence beyond this life as well.

While living in the physical world the creative power of our thoughts is slowed by the density of matter. However, when we examine our physical surroundings we discover an amazing fact: every single object in our life was preceded by the energy of our thoughts. This is an exciting realization, because we begin to awaken to our unlimited potential and recognize that our creative abilities are expanded exponentially when we enter the subtle thought-responsive environments of the afterlife. An awe-inspiring future awaits those of us who understand how to effectively focus the infinite creative potential of our consciousness.

Throughout this book I use the term awakening. I am referring to the individual process of becoming aware of our immortal self and our continuing existence beyond all the temporary vehicles and projections of matter and form. It is the profound act of being consciously aware of our spiritual essence and our purpose for visiting this demanding training reality we call Earth. This awakening to our true self is essential to accelerate our continuing evolution now and beyond the body.

My wife, Susan, and I wrote this book with the deep desire to help inform readers about the continuing reality of our existence and all that it implies. As a lifelong explorer through self-induced out-of-body experiences and meditation, I have written Part One of this book, which explores our opportunities for spiritual awakening, the multidimensional continuum of consciousness and the journey of soul that continues through our life, death and beyond. As a hospice volunteer and a certified end-of-life doula, Susan has written Part Two, which examines the transition we call death, suggesting a new paradigm for assisting our loved onesand ourselvesin making the transition experience an effective launch pad for a profound spiritual journey.

We are magnificent, creative, and eternal beings who are learning and evolving through intense physical experiences. The universal path we travel is an individual journey that begins with the courage to open our minds to question everything. The key is to awaken and become an active participant in our personal spiritual path - not just a passive believer in it.

Knowledge of our multidimensional nature and the nonphysical environments we will enter helps to prepare us for our continuing journey beyond the body. Each reality we experience after death will provide us unique opportunities to learn and evolve. We have much to master in order to effectively navigate the vast thought-responsive dimensions we will experience. Our amazing adventure has just begun; let us be prepared and empowered!

CHAPTER 1

Spiritual Awakening

If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken yourself.
If you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself.

What is Spiritual Awakening?

IS IT POSSIBLE that we have distorted the pure simplicity of spiritual awakening with our overwhelming dependence on manmade concepts? Is it possible that we have complicated spirituality by saturating our mind with a lifetime of doctrines and dogma? Maybe the truth is simple; the spiritual path is always within, patiently waiting for us to awaken to the radiance of our inner essence. Could it be that we just need to free our minds? During my out-of-body experiences I have found that spiritual awakening is not about adding additional philosophies to our life; its about stripping away the many falsehoods that obstruct our eternal light. We become fully aware beings by ascending from belief systems and opening to the oneness of our spiritual source. This inner exploration of consciousness enables us to truly awaken to our immortal self. Spirituality is not believed or read from a bookit is experienced in our daily life.

We are all playing a temporary physical game. At birth we assimilate into a human body, gradually adapting to the cultural norms that dominate our immediate surroundings. Over the years we have become comfortable in the material environment that we call home and are conditioned to accept a host of assumptions about our existence and our place in the world. Our integration into physical society is a lifetime endeavor. We are taught to believe that we are our human bodies and that our country is our home. Day after day we compare ourselves to the people around us and inwardly declare that we are doing fine; we are fitting in and getting by. When we compare ourselves to those around us, everything seems normal. Then one day we begin to ask some soul-searching questions. What is the purpose for my life? What am I? Where did I come from before my birth? And perhaps most unsettling what happens when I die?

Your awakening may develop due to a number of reasons: the death of a loved one, a serious illness, or a string of personal challenges that has shaken your comfortable perception of reality. Whatever the cause, you feel you have finally risen from a long sleep. You begin to pursue deeper insight to resolve those uncertainties. Instinctively you know that there is more to existence than the repetition of daily activity, the acquiring of physical objects and the clinging to an assortment of old traditions. This awakening becomes a pivotal turning point in your life. You are no longer satisfied with the status quo. You quickly discover that it can be difficult to express your driving need for answers when your family and friends have remained content to follow the established beliefs and rituals of their childhood. Many find that their loved ones dont share their burning desire for self-knowledge and soon realize that their quest is an individual path of discovery. And so begins the most important exploration of your life.
