ABOUT PARAMAHAMSA SRI SWAMI VISHWANANDA
Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda is a fully realised spiritual Master, whose international mission, known as Bhakti Marga, the path of devotion, is based in the heart of Europe. He travels the world to encourage all people to recognise the universal Love that lies within each human being, and to awaken their innate ability to express that Love in their daily lives.
Effortlessly connecting principles of eastern spirituality with elements of western spiritual tradition, Paramahamsa Vishwananda reveals the underlying oneness of the Divine and inspires a unique experience of spirituality, regardless of culture, religion, gender or age. To him, the name or form one gives to God does not matter. What matters is sincerity of the heart, devoted service to God and man, and a positive, humble attitude as one journeys along the spiritual path.
Giving Darshans and Satsangs tirelessly throughout the year, Paramahamsa Vishwananda introduces these simple but profound concepts in a very personal way, answering questions about love, life, death, healing, and faith.
His commentaries on supplementary Vedic texts like this one help a worldwide audience gain a deeper understanding of the universal messages they contain, and spread the message of love, peace and unity to all of mankind.
FOREWORD
The Shreemad Bhagavad Gita is one of the most ancient scriptures in the world. It contains the direct word of God, spoken for all of mankind, irrespective of religion or tradition. The name, Shreemad Bhagavad Gita, literally means The Song of God. God has been addressed as so many things through history but today, in this day and age, Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda chooses to call Him Love. To the bhakta, God is our everything. He is our friend, our father, our mother, our lover, our son, but no matter how different He may appear on the outside, above all He is Love. It is and has always been Paramahamsa Vishwanandas wish to unite mankind, to bring people from across the world together in the name of universal Love. It is in that spirit that Swamiji has chosen to name this book, his personal commentary, The Song of Love.
The philosophy and teachings of the Shreemad Bhagavad Gita are central to human life. The Gita instructs us on how to live our daily lives in divinity, as a service unto God and His creation. It achieves this by teaching true knowledge, faith, devotion, surrender, detachment, and a release of expectations and ownership over ones own actions. It comes as a stark contrast to the lives with which we have grown accustomed to leading. Todays world is filled with constant desire for material wealth, sense pleasures, individualism and egoism. It undeniably leads to suffering and unhappiness as the endless pit of desires consumes mankind, since it remains ignorant to the dormant Love contained within each living being, uniting us all. Life is that constant battle between the forces of righteousness and unrighteousness. In the Gita, that is exemplified perfectly by the struggles of Arjuna, the dearest devotee of Bhagavan Sri Krishna. We are all Arjunas, stranded in life, looking for a way to everlasting happiness and to fulfil our true purpose. Luckily we live in an age in which several Masters, embodiments of the Divine Itself, have come to answer that call. One such Master is Sri Swami Vishwananda. We are all incredibly lucky to have him with us, and we are eternally grateful to him for everything he does for humanity.
The Gita acts as a lighthouse on the shores of Vaikunta, guiding lost sailors at the sea of illusion to safety. Its light dispels the darkest corners of our being and gifts us with immense Grace to approach the Lord within our hearts. But like any teaching, time and unqualified minds can distort it and misunderstand what is contained within. It is for that purpose that the Lord continuously takes birth on Earth in the form of the Guru to revive the true essence of the Gita, to show the simplicity of the message of Bhagavan. The Gita is a book of self-discovery and a journey to our true Self. We urge all not to act in ignorance and unfounded pride and attempt that trip by yourselves. It is a dangerous path wrought with traps both internal and external. Take shelter at the Lotus Feet of the Guru and allow yourself to be guided safely to the shores of Vaikunta in due time.
This foreword ends with a question. In , Sri Krishna says:
Have you paid attention to this, O Arjuna, with a concentrated mind? Has your delusion, caused by ignorance been dispelled?
May it be so that your delusions and ignorance may be transformed into Bhakti and Love for God by the Grace of Sri Krishna and Paramahamsa Sri Swami Vishwananda.
Jai Gurudev!
