IVE HAD THE privilege of knowing Evangelist Daniel Kolenda for several years, and I have been able to grasp his passion to see nations and lives transformed by the gospel and our beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The experiences shared in Slaying Dragons will certainly bless many. This book provides deep revelation of the spiritual realm that will empower the reader to step into a higher level of faith.

After reading through Slaying Dragons, I am convinced that its content regarding spiritual warfare will enable the reader to access a new level of faith and authority in Jesus Christ. In these times we must strive to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the spiritual realm like never before. Satan and his army are tirelessly working to deceive believers. It is imperative that we are fully clothed with Gods armor in order to effectively fight back and take authority over all darkness and evil spirits. We are reminded in Luke 10:19 of the authority Jesus Christ has given us over all the power of darkness.

I fervently encourage every reader to embrace this books deep revelation of the spiritual realm. Genuine and true revelation can only lead us to be more like Jesus. Furthermore remember there are millions of lost souls waiting for you to be the bearer of good news and present Jesus to them. Be encouraged and believe that God wants to use your life.

There he lay, a vast red-golden dragon, fast asleep; a thrumming came from his jaws and nostrils, and wisps of smoke, but his fires were low in slumber. Beneath him, under all his limbs and his huge coiled tail, and about him on all sides stretching away across the unseen floors, lay countless piles of precious things, gold wrought and unwrought, gems and jewels, and silver red-stained in the ruddy light. Smaug lay, with wings folded like an immeasurable bat, turned partly on one side, so that the hobbit could see his underparts and his long pale belly crusted with gems and fragments of gold from his long lying on his costly bed.

J. R. R. TOLKIEN, THE HOBBIT

THE IMAGE OF the dragon is as old as human consciousness. The terrifying legends of great serpentine, fire-breathing monsters come from virtually every ancient culture on earth. The word dragon comes from the Greek word drakn, which means gazer. It comes from a verb that means to see clearly. The word came to describe ancient monsters, typically intelligent, reptilian, snakelike beings.

One author writes, In the mythology of the ancient Greeks, such fantastical chimeric beasts were created by the Titans, in the distant Kronian Age before the Olympian gods, and typically dwelled in the mysterious places at the far reach of the world-river Okeanosa metaphor for the most distant place a mortal could travel.

The Egyptians had Akhekh, an enormous, four-legged serpent. Its name may have been derived from a dialect of the southeastern African Makua where Ikuka is the great Python. In this area serpents have been found up to thirty-six feet long! Similar dragons appear in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and other Asian mythology.

The Bible also uses dragon imagery. In the first story, in the beginning of the first book of the Bible, we are introduced to the dragon. Satan, in the form of a sentient, talking serpent, beguiles Eve and brings about the fall of mankind. The story ends with a prophetic promise that points to Jesus. God says to the serpent, And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel (Gen. 3:15).

Christ, the offspring of Eve, would crush the head of that old serpent. Christs body was mortally wounded in the process, but He rose from the dead in victory! His death was but a strike to the heel. On the other hand, Satan was defeated over and over by Jesus during His earthly life. Then at the cross he was utterly conquered with no hope of ever rising again to victory. His head was totally crushed. Even now, as he continues to ravage the world with sickness, disease, temptation, and all kinds of evil, he is a completely vanquished and defeated foe. His only power is what we give him.

Although Satans ultimate defeat came through the death and resurrection of Christ, Jesus beat the devil soundly at every turn throughout His earthly life. Jesus demonstrated for us what it is to walk in victory. He gave His disciples authority to walk in that same victory over sin, Satan, and evil. This is our inheritance as children of the light.
