INTRODUCTION
Napoleon Hills Think and Grow Rich has sold millions of copies since its original publication in 1937. It is referenced in many financial and prosperity self-help books published over the last few decades, and is credited with helping many people follow their dreams and become wealthy. But what about those who didnt follow their dreams and become wealthy? What separates those who read the book and became wealthy from those who read the book whose life didnt change much or at all? Thats a question that Ive always been interested in, and Napoleon Hill himself answers it throughout Think and Grow Rich. He talks about creating a goal and then taking action on that goal consistently. But not just any goalHill writes that we must choose a goal that is actually a burning desire. The stronger our desire for the goal, the greater the likelihood that we will stay the course in making this goal come to fruition.
Many people pick up Think and Grow Rich and read all or part of it, then put it down, take no action other than wishing and hoping, and then wonder why their lives dont change. Or they put down the book only partially read because they are disappointed there is no magic bullet to riches that takes very little time or effort on their part, thus creating as minimal inconvenience to their lives as possible. No, Napoleon Hill is very clear that the road to riches requires an actively engaged person who has a burning desire and takes daily action. You cant get something for nothing, Hill writes several times in Think and Grow Rich. That commitment to do whatever it takes to make your goal come true is a crucial piece of the puzzle of your success.Without daily action, Hill reminds us time and again, we are on the sidelines of our lives. Once we make a decision, commit, and follow through, only then do we take ourselves and our own lives seriouslyand does it seem as if all of life can sense this seriousness and results begin to emerge.
Thats what happened to me. The more I read through Think and Grow Rich, the more I realized that I needed to do more than just read the words. I needed to take constant, positive action toward my goals. With my Master Mind partner, August Gold, we dived into the teachings and devoured every principle, every action, every test that Napoleon Hill wrote about. We met weekly (and sometimes more frequently), and we took every page of Think and Grow Rich seriously, as if it were written specifically to us, and for us.
In this pursuit, we discovered that we had two needs that would aid us immeasurably. The first was to have a place to do the actions and exercises that Hill suggests in the pages of Think and Grow Rich, so we created what we called The Think and Grow Rich Workbook as an organized way to complete what Napoleon Hill suggests within the pages of Think and Grow Rich. But we quickly discovered that we needed a second tool as well. We needed a journala Success Journal, we called itas a place for additional contemplation, inspiration, reflection, action, and accountability. Thus, The Think and Grow Rich Success Journal was created, and it did indeed help us stay focused and inspired and accountable, and we continue to use it to this day. Once we reached our original, individual goals, we began to teach the Think and Grow Rich philosophy to others, and found that our self-made workbook and success journal were helpful to them as well. And now, both of these success tools are professionally published and available to you.
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK
The Think and Grow Rich Success Journal is a way to take the ideas of Think and Grow Rich and find new and more potent ways of applying them to your lives. Start with the section called Your Six Steps to Success. This is our title for the practice that Napoleon Hill uses as the foundation for his Think and Grow Rich philosophy. It is a place to choose which goal you want to pursue first (i.e., what you have the most burning desire for), at what time you are aiming for this goal to become reality, and the actions you are prepared to take toward achieving that goal. Read Hills instructions in this section carefully, and then do exactly as he suggests. Once you have your goal, you are ready to use the next part of the success journal.
The journal itself mirrors the thirteen principles, or steps to riches, that are found in Think and Grow Rich. We suggest that you take each of the thirteen steps and spend a week (or longer, if you wish) exploring each one to learn about how it relates to your life, and how you can use it to move toward your goal. To that end, each of the thirteen sections has seven two-page spreads for you to apply. You can use this success journal alongside your study of Think and Grow Rich (we prefer the original, public domain version of the book, finding it to be the most powerful), or you can enjoy this success journal on its own. Either way, using the success journal can create a catalyst for positive change in your life.
In each two-page spread, youll find five sections that you can fill out daily. First is the Napoleon Hills Success Inspiration. This is a daily quotetaken from the corresponding chapter of Think and Grow Rich that you are focusing onthat will motivate and educate you. Great words can activate great ideas, which in turn can activate great action, all of which creates great results. For these quotes, we chose our favorite edition of Think and Grow Rich, which is the original edition from 1937. The quotes are taken right out of this powerful edition, with only very slight changes to accommodate the format of this Think and Grow Rich-inspired tool.
Todays Success Thoughts is a place where you can journal your ideas, thoughts, concerns, and questions. Use this space to record your wins as wellin doing so, youll be creating a record of your journey to reaching your goal. If you have any trouble in deciding what to write in this space, read the daily Success Inspiration quote from Napoleon Hill and then write down what that quote means to you, and how you can apply its wisdom in your life beginning that day. Remember, as Hill teaches us, Ideas are the beginning points of all fortunes, so fill in this space with as many ideas and success thoughts as you can.
Todays Action Steps gives you a place to record any action steps you need to take that day. Dont just write down the steptake the action! Once you take the action, check the box to show that it has been completed. Checking off success step boxes creates a great feeling of accomplishment! If you dont get to all of the action steps for a particular day, carry them forward to the next day to do. But try to set a standard that you wont carry over an action step more than one or two extra days. That will develop a habit of action that will serve you greatly.
