HERES WHAT PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT PHILIP
MAFFETONES APPROACH TO HEALTH AND FITNESS:
Dr. Maffetone is a modern-day medicine man whose views, practices, and techniques extend far beyond the turbocharged adrenaline of the exercise kingdom.
William R. Katovsky, founding editor of Inside Triathlon and Triathlete magazines and two-time Ironman
The great conductor Arturo Toscanini once remarked, Tradition is the last bad performance. Like Toscanini, Philip Maffetone questions some of the weary tenets of performance training. His stable of athletes is perhaps the purest expression of his craft.

FOREWORD
Peak performance fitness and lifestyle fitness are separated only by volume. Someone interested in improving his or her overall health and quality of life through exercise can use the same principles an elite healthy athlete uses to win a race like the Ironman. The big difference between training to win the Ironman and training for life is the distancethe principles are the same! I used Phils workout structure during my competitive years and was able to win the Ironman six times. And I still use Phils training principles to keep me fit for life.
There are several reasons I feel Dr. Maffetones principles are so powerful and effective. First and foremost, they are easy to follow. Like everyone else, I have constraints on my time and on mental energy available for training. If a program is so complicated that I spend most of my time trying to figure it out, it will fail for me. Phils approach avoids this major pitfall so common with a lot of other schedules.
Phil had based his program on the real world, another reason for the success of his methods. Many coaches base their recommendations on research done in a lab under specific and controlled conditions. More often than not, the results from this research miss the mark in the real world. I know Phils program and principles work because Ive tested them for over a decade in the real world of elite athletics. And I continue to use these principles to enhance my quality of life through a balanced athletic training schedule that helps improve my health and reduce the level of stress in my life.
