Practical Steps To Face Lifes Realities and Embrace Success.

T he above quote is attributed to the 13th Century Persian, Poet, Scholar and Jurist Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, often times just simply referred to as RUMI. He was undoubtedly the most popular poet of his era. His influence and legacy spanned the last 7 centuries, and these make up the final tonic I needed with my gin, to assure me of the need to express my personal thoughts, views, discoveries, challenges, and the many obstacles I faced (and still face) on the journey of enlightenment and discovery of success principles. All these have fascinated me literally my entire life, right from the moment of the recognition of my consciousness till this very moment that our paths now cross.

I will like to believe that I am not alone, but that I share this space with many others in the world. Individuals, who just like myself were and/or are confused, unable to comprehend how to get ahead in life, and in search of answers thus justify the need for a practical and tested approach of a set of principles by which many through the ages have adhered. In fact, that many still practise these principles to achieve success alludes to the main inspiration behind this book. The more I walked down the path of its research and faced the discovery of timeless truths, the more visible the way appeared right before my very eyes, just like Rumi had predicted many centuries ago.

But first things first: I believe a caveat needs to be boldly plastered on this opening page before I proceed (thanks to my legal background, something every lawyer will relate with). In the words of billionaire investor, hedge fund manager and philanthropist, the man often described as the Da Vinci of Investing, Ray Dalio, in his bestseller and highly recommended book Principles: Before I begin telling you what I think, I want to establish that Im a dumb shit who doesnt know much relative to what I need to know. So, I basically in clear terms remain dumb but Im learning.

What you have in your hands is an outpouring of my soul, from practical experiences, deep introspection, continuous humble study of life and lessons from the best tutor any man can ask for Mother Nature herself. It is the digging up of the past, an analysis of the present, and a forensic research into the lives of successful individuals who represent the lessons I have learnt and practised.

During my many months of writing these various ageless principles (some you may already know, others which may be new), the way to travel seemed to appear almost magically. This was my own personal yellow brick road to an Emerald City like the fictional representation in Lewis Carrolls Children classic Alice in Wonderland, located in the exact centre of the entire continent. I wanted a book to make everyone embrace reality and challenges just like Alice encountered. Hopefully, this will help make you get to your success point -- your own Emerald City -- as she also did.

The aim of this book is also for you to personally fashion out what success truly means to you and not necessarily what the world or myself superimposes. This is the only way you would truly find true success. This is because for it to be meaningful, success must be personal. It is my expectation that this body of work helps you probe deeper into finding yourself, like a scientist seeking answers on what success means, keeping in mind that, success is for everyone and it means different things to different people and that you are allowed to own your own version of what it represents to the delight of your soul.

Now permit me to share my humble background with you. Armed with a Law degree, and with more than a decade of business experience in different sectors, a lifetime of observation and exposure to the world, I have experienced a roller coaster life of failures and a few successes. Like others, I sought the Philosophers Stone of success. This quest also led me to taking notes along the adventure, writing away and storing the principles I discovered. I kept testing all, keeping what worked, tossing out what didnt, and when the way began to appear in due time, I found myself passing off the knowledge I had learnt, first to individuals and soon quite unexpectedly, to businesses that sought to understand better, tested approaches to becoming more successful. Several requests were made for these principles to be compiled for public consumption but I remained sceptical.

But the evolution of this book was mixed and I never realized it would challenge and lead me to face reality in ways I never thought possible. It has pushed me towards a quest for self-discovery as I have stared at my imperfections like a mirror image, and most importantly, it has changed me in the process. Now, I have personally come to accept what success really means, but this inbuilt desire to share this roadmap with the world I might add, wasnt without struggles, constant belittlement by the fear of failure, ridicule and scorn from both real and imaginary foes.

I, like millions of individuals the world over, was trapped in a sticky web of stagnancy and unable to summon courage to take on the might of the giant who goes by the name What if? Well, until now, a fellow school mate (who I can now proudly address as a co-author) struck me with a bolt of lightning, even though at the time I doubted him greatly. I felt the effect of this Mjolnir strike (the hammer wielded by Thor Marvel Superhero) with the words - we all have a story to tell and Chris the World is waiting for yours.
