Psalm 91 Military Edition by Peggy Joyce Ruth provides a clear and upbeat exhortation to stand on the promises of Gods special care extended to His children. My family has received great and tangible comfort from Psalm 91, and Peggy Joyces book was the catalyst. This book is pure encouragement, and its fruit will only be fully known in heaven. We have sown the seed, to one army and one marine family with husbands in combat zones in Iraq and to an unbelieving spouse of a naval officer who is now quoting Psalm 91 every day over her children. I have shared it with other naval officers when I was deployed to the Persian Gulf on an aircraft carrier last year. If your ears have become dull to Gods promises, get this book and be renewed to a heart of faith in Gods provision of protection.

G ENERAL GEORGE C. MARSHALL, US Army Chief of Staff during World War II, once said, We are buildingmorale, not on supreme confidence in our ability to conquer and subdue other peoples; not in reliance on things of steel and the super-excellence of guns and planes and bombsights, but on things more potent. We are building it on belief; for it is what men believe that makes them invincible.
During my experience as a chaplain to a battalion of marines in Iraq, I saw firsthand what happens when belief in almighty God floods the hearts and souls of men and women rushing into the teeth of battle. This supreme confidence in God is not foxhole religion or superficial faith. It is a life-changing decision to place oneself completely into the loving hands of Him who is greater than the battlefield.
Such a faith is nowhere more vividly demonstrated than in the words of Psalm 91. For thousands of years the Soldiers Psalm has given warriors a reservoir of truth to draw from when the night is dark and the hour is difficult. In this timely companion to this timeless psalm, Peggy Joyce Ruth has made clear and accessible the power of Gods promises to those who face the ruination and rubble of war.
For those on the home front, read this book as a practical guide to radical intercessory prayer on behalf of your marine, sailor, soldier, or airman.
For those heroes on the front lines, read this book for strength, hope, courage, and salvation. And as you walk with God through the valley of the shadow of death, may the awesome power of His promises, shared in this book, fill your heart, rule your mind, and shield your life. For, He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty (Ps. 91:1).

N OTHING COULD HAVE THRILLED my heart more than what recently took place in our hometown with our military. The National Guard men and women, along with their families, had just been honored with a citywide dinner where speeches were made and lengthy good-byes offered. In the midst of all the commotion, I piled stacks of my Psalm 91 books on my card table and attempted to place one in the hands of each of the military personnel and their families. I had been questioning in my mind all evening how many of the books would be misplaced, laid down, or forgotten in all the excitement.
With a father who served in World War II, a brother and a brother-in-law who each served in the military, and a grandson now serving his country as an Air Force policeman, my heart ached for the opportunity to have our soldiers see the awesome protection covenant from God that is brought to light in this book. I doubted they had paid much attention to what was pushed into their hands during all the celebration. However, as the military buses carrying them to their deployment passed, to my absolute delight and in response to a homemade sign bearing the words We are praying Psalm 91 for you! several of the guys in uniform held their books out the bus windows and pointed to their copies of Psalm 91: Gods Umbrella of Protection
