Chapter 1
1. Think of a time in your life when you knew Jesus was real and present. Then write out your own conclusion to this sentence: Jesus became real when

3. How would you describe the blessing that follows being poor in spirit?
Chapter 2
1. In what ways do you avoid being seen as broken?
2. When in your life have you experienced mourning? How would you describe the blessing that resulted from it?
3. If youre unable to see the blessing that comes with mourning, how might you embrace the pain?
Chapter 3
1. Have you experienced the blessing of facing up to sin? If so, how did you feel?
2. In what ways have you caught yourself behaving like a Pharisee? Be honest! Remember, its always the truth that will set you free.
3. In what ways do you take ownership of your own humility?
Chapter 4
1. In your own words, how would you describe having a pure heart?
2. In what ways are you sometimes inauthentic with others?
3. Think of a time when you confessed a sin to God and/or another person. How did you feel afterward?
Chapter 5
1. When in your life have you experienced emptiness?
2. In what ways has God shown up to fill your emptiness?
3. What people, places, or activities take up the space in your life that is meant for God? Are you willing to give those to him?
Chapter 6
1. Is there an area or a circumstance in your life that has you feeling helpless? I challenge you right now to take an actionpray, talk to someone, make a decision take up your mat and walktake an action that will empower you. If youre not sure what to do, ask God, listen, then do what he tells you to do.
2. What gets in your way of asking for help? Are you willing to give that up and let God or another person help you?
3. What are your thoughts on the idea that the more helpless you are, the better?
Chapter 7
1. If money and time were no issue, what would you want God to use you for?
2. What are the things that make you feel disqualified to serve God? Who said those things are true?
3. Make a list of all your disqualifications. Then surrender them, renounce them, and tear up the paper you wrote them on.
Chapter 8
1. What are the weaknesses in your life?
2. How have you noticed Gods strength in spite of your weaknesses?
3. In what ways do you tend to hide your weaknesses? What would happen if you exposed them?
The End of You
1. Read Matthew 7:1314 again. How often to you find yourself wandering down the broad road? What do you do to get back on the narrow road?
2. Read Matthew 16:2425 again. How often do you catch yourself trying to save your own life?
3. Getting to the end of yourself means you lose your life (your ego, your survival tactics) for Jesus. It means you die every day as you intentionally choose the upside-down ways of Jesus. Are you ready to go for it?
