Introduction

Anybody can draw. If you want to be a good artist you need courage and enthusiasm. Practice is also one of the most important things. By practicing, you can tame your hand drawn lines, curves, etc. the way you want. Your hand should work freely and bravely. Why do I use the word bravely? Because some people think drawing is difficult and they try to avoid mistakes as much as possible. So, they are reluctant to move their hands freely. Dont be afraid. Theres no exact way to draw something. Making mistakes is another way of learning. Your drawing may be totally different from the other persons. So, feel free to use your pencil.

In this book, Ive given many ways to draw a rose. People think roses are difficult to draw, but youll see its quite easy. There is no exact method to draw a rose. After a lot of practice, youll invent your own methods to draw roses even more beautifully. The rose, a common flower widely grown all over the world, comes in many varieties. Now there are Valentine roses too! Despite these variations, roses have some specific features in common, such as petals sticking out in the center, etc. So, youll have to be attentive toward such things. To give your rose a natural look, you can add thorns, petioles, and tiny pine-like hairs along the stem, etc. However, when you develop as an artist youll find that drawing a rose is not a difficult thing.

Coloring is an imperative part in our rose drawing process. When you select colors, always use natural colors that make it look like a real rose. Darkening the contours, and shadowing the petals should be done carefully. Follow these examples throughout. Practice, practice, and practice some more. When you learn, start with the simple patterns. In this book, I start with the simple and move on to the complex. So, follow the steps. Practice how to draw and color. Before coloring the rose using complex sources like water colors or oil colors, use colored pencils. Its the best source for beginners. Mistakes will be less if you attempt coloring using color pencils. Always start the coloring from the top of your picture and go to the bottom part little by little.

Ive provided instructions throughout the book, step by step. Always stick to them. Once youve developed, you may try your own inventions. Try to acquire the ability to create your rose in a natural way. More instructions are on the way. Ready? Lets get started.

Chapter 1 - How to Draw a Rose in Full Bloom

Its not that hard to draw a rose in full bloom. By following a step-by-step method, you can draw a rose quite easily. Whenever you see a beautiful rose drawing done by someone else, you may think, Oh, what a lovely drawing! Id never be able to do that. But, when you practice step by step, youll never even remember the days you spent as a failure at drawing a rose. So, cmon! Lets begin.

You will need ;

  • A good pencil
  • Drawing papers
  • An eraser
  • Colored pencils
  • A black carbon (ball point) pen

There are several ways to draw a full bloom rose. This method is the easiest.

Method 01

Draw an oval-shaped fifth petal. Start it from the middle of the second. Proceed with the curve, touching the fourth and the first, and stop after drawing an oval shaped petal at the center. Make the oval slightly touch the second petal.

Add another petal to the front as shown in the diagram. It should overlap with the four petals in the front. Its in a messy state, though, so you have to erase all the pencil marks which are inside the newly added petal and make it appear clean. Now, youve got a nice new petal; the ninth one. Its rather different in the shape as well as in the size. But, dont draw it in a cut and paste nature. Draw it in a more natural way.

Now, youve almost finished the petals. Add a natural look to your rose by giving it a few more pencil lines as shown in the picture.

Draw the sepals and receptacle. Draw the tiny pine-like hairs along the edges of sepals. Some artists neglect these tiny features. But your drawing will look livelier if you pay attention to them. So, draw them too.

Method 02 This is different but somewhat similar to the previously drawn - photo 9

Method 02

This is different, but somewhat similar to the previously drawn rose. The front petal is of a different shape, however.

Draw the first petal like this. By changing the height of the first petal, you can change the appearance of the whole flower. For instance, if you make it wider you can get a fairly large flower.
