Foreword
T he teachers mission is to empower their students to rise higher than their minds perceived potential. Susi Roos, an accomplished student of mine, has done just that! With calm confidence shes integrated The LifeLine Technique and other holistic models into mainstream medicine. At Cancer Treatment Centers of America and in private practice, shes been a shepherd for those feeling unsure along their way. Susi has taken what the leading experts are teaching in the arena of mindbody healing and put it into a practical format that people can apply in their daily lives. Shes been able to see that theres another way beyond the allopathic approach that melds the mind and body into a meaningful and transformational journey.
In this monumental book, Susi shares the fundamental challenges patients face in todays current health care system and shows you what steps you can take to begin to reclaim your power and live an optimally healthy life. Whether youre feeling lost or simply desiring a deeper understanding of the nature of symptoms and stress, this book will not only help you begin your journey of wholeness, it will support you the entire way through. I applaud Susi for stepping into her power and going beyond the cutting edge to be a leader in the consciousness movement of mindbody healing.
Your souls destiny is to discover the meaning and value of your life. Many people, if not most, are caught in a playing field of duality. They often see themselves and others through a lens of separation and fear and thus are attempting to get away from or stop what appears to be painful, scary, or stressful. In this experience of separation, a landscape of light and dark, good and bad, allopathic or holistic is discerned. As much as each perspective has its particular value, potential and challenge, when the individual parts are bridged together, the purpose and power of life itself is revealed.
Science has now verified what the ancients have been saying for thousands of years. The body is designed to heal, completely regenerate, and be whole. This process is one that, on a certain level, possesses a simple elegance, while on another is extremely challenging to enact. Healing is a state of wholeness. Its not just the lack of symptoms or stress but rather a space of acknowledging all parts of oneself. Health is a state of accepting, forgiving, appreciating, and loving unconditionally. It is this state of mind that sets into motion what the science of psychoneuroimmunology has been able to both qualify and quantify. The bodys self-healing capacity is based upon what you think, feel, choose, and most importantly, believe. Changes in ones digestion, immunity, hormones, metabolism, detoxification, memory, mood, blood pressure, blood sugar levels, and overall level of optimism are based upon the health of your mind.
But what exactly is the mind? And where is it? If youve wondered about this, youre in good company. These questions have perplexed the greatest scientific, medical and philosophical minds for centuries. With more recent discoveries, new questions are added. How do I tap into the depth of my mind? And if I can connect to my mind then what do I do to change the way its impacting my body and life?
These are key questions that, once understood, will forever change the way you move through life and life moves through you. The first quality of the mind to appreciate is that it is a field of energy. The mind is not limited to one place; rather it is an infinite field whose potential manifests in both our biology and behavior. The infinite field of the mind can be divided into five different components:
the conscious mind
the subconscious mind
the superconscious mind
the collective conscious mind
the collective unconscious mind
Collectively, these particular aspects of the mind make up the totality of life and comprise every view you could possibly imagine and beyond. It is said that our bodies and lives speak our minds. This means that the state of ones mind is reflected in the health of ones body as well as in the relationships in ones life. Most people focus on their bodies or their relationships as the means to restore health and happiness. However, the real journey to health is revealed when one begins to tap into the power of their infinite mind.
The conscious and subconscious minds are most pertinent to Harnessing the Power of the Mind for Healing. The conscious mind is the part of your mind through which you perceive with your senses. You consciously see, hear, taste, smell, touch, and intuit. As a consequence of what you sense in any given environment, youre able to make a decision about what action to take based upon your feelings and what you know to be true. Research has shown that the conscious mind makes up anywhere between two and ten percent of ones perception. That being said, only two to ten percent of who you are is making the decisions for your entire life.
The other ninety to ninety-eight percent of the mind resides in the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the aspect of the mind thats below consciousness and, in some ways, can be likened to a submarine. Unless it surfaces, youre not aware that its there. The subconscious mind is an all-powerful mind whose purpose is based exclusively on protection. It is the aspect of mind that controls every one of the fifty-plus trillion cells in the body which regulate blood pressure, immunity, hormones, digestion, metabolism, detoxification, cellular regeneration, etc. You never have to tell your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, your immune cells to fight an infection, or your cells to regenerate. These processes are reactive and occur automatically for the sake of adapting to ones environment.
Beyond maintaining physical health, the subconscious minds other job is to store every memory, experience, and emotion that youve ever had. This way youre able to continue to learn, evolve, and process new information. Its these subconscious emotions and memories that, when activated, are the core of symptoms and stress in a persons body and life. Your brain and body dont know the difference between imagination, memory, or reality. Therefore, when a subconscious reactive emotional pattern is activated or triggered by something in your present reality, the brain and body begin to function from or as the emotion or memory that has been stored in the subconscious mind. The key to this subconscious mechanism is symptoms. Symptoms of pain, fear, and stress become the conscious feedback mechanism stemming from the subconscious mind.
The truth being, if you had a conscious choice, would you ever choose to be in pain, fear, or stress? The answer is a resounding no! You would always choose to be happy and healthy when given the
