Guide
Way to go! The fact that you have opened this book says a lot about you. I am so very proud of you for wanting an answer to this question: How do I deal with worry? Many people never seek that answer. They assume that anxiety comes with life. To a degree, they are correct. Anxiety comes with life. But anxiety shouldnt take over your life.
Good for you for working to get a hold on this problem before it gets a hold on you. I pray that God will use this book to equip you with tools for battling the enemy of worry.
Worry is when we let tomorrows problems ruin today. There is nothing wrong with being prepared for tomorrow. Nor is it wrong to have a healthy concern for tomorrow. But worrying goes beyond preparation and healthy concern. Worry attempts to solve tomorrows problems today. This is what led Jesus to say: Dont worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will have its own worries. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:34).
Did you know the New Testament of the Bible was originally written in Greek? The Greek word for worry used in the Scriptures is a wonderful compound of two words that mean divide and the mind. To worry, then, is to divide the mind. Anxiety splits our energy between todays plans and tomorrows problems. Part of our mind is on the now; the rest is on the not yet. The result is half-minded living.
How can a person deal with anxiety? You might try what a guy did in a story I heard. He worried so much that he decided to hire someone to do his worrying for him. He found a man who agreed to be his hired worrier for a salary of $200,000 per year. After he accepted the job, the first question the hired worrier asked his boss was Where are you going to get $200,000 per year? The other man responded, Thats your worry.
Sadly, worrying is one job you cant hire someone else to do for you. But worrying is a habit you can overcome.
With God as your helper, you will do just that. Again, I am so very proud of you! By discovering Gods tools for dealing with anxiety, you will increase the odds of a happy and joy-filled life. May God open your mind and heart as you open His Word to receive His truth.
Have you ever felt worried about something big in your life? Have you ever felt worried about something small? Or have you ever felt worried for no reason at alllike the feeling you get when you know a thunderstorm is coming? Youre afraid something bad is going to happen even though it hasnt happened yet. Maybe you get an upset feeling in your stomach. Or maybe its a thought you cant stop thinking about.
When you feel worried like this, you are feeling
