the business of redemption
Leadership starts and ends with ownership; and is driven by a passion for positive change. James takes full ownership of his life and the events that lead to regrettable and tragic loss of life. Nothing can undo that or make it better. But James example of choosing to own his circumstance, choosing to give a full and brutally honest accounting, choosing to stand back up, choosing to give and live life fully again is a great example. I recommend this book to everyone and especially for those whose ambition drives them to lead and make the world a better place. We can all learn from what James has to share.
John Quigley , Vice President of Research and Development, NXP Semiconductors
In 2009, we were developing a television project with James. He was on top of the world, and the networks loved him. Then his entire world collapsed. It was the most stunning turnaround; and devastating to watch as he lost everythinghis home, his career, his partner, most of his friends, and his freedom. The Business of Redemption is wonderfully written, gripping, and told with incredible honesty and humility. It is a true testimony to how life can be rebuilt, even from the depths of despair.
John Watkin , Multiple Emmy Winning Producer/Director

In The Business of Redemption , James Arthur Rays personal stories are riveting and his lessons learned are deep. No one is better equipped than James to show you exactly how to get knocked down, get back up, and come back strong. True leadership only comes from learning from our mistakes and failures. With self-reflection and an ownership of our mistakes we become greater human beings and have more to offer others. James has truly grown beyond himself into the kind of leader necessary in this new age.

In this book, James handles the disastrous circumstances which devastated many lives, including his. With honesty and in detail. He takes full responsibility for what had happened, He meant well, he meant to do good and it all went horribly wrong. Whilst reading this book I thought of all the past good deeds I had done to serve others which had not turned out as expected. I couldnt help but think that this could easily have happened me. Redemption took me through an emotional roller coaster ride of empathy, sadness and above all deep lessons learned of the human experience, psyche and behavior. A must read.

Acknowledgments
This book has been a ten-year journey and labor of love. It has gone through so many writes and rewrites that Ive lost count. So many people have contributed, written, read, and given their input. We all deeply desired to get this book right.
There are so many individuals for whom Im eternally grateful. So many who have taught me valuable lessons throughout my life. Sometimes even when it was their objective to take me down, attack, or persecute. Ive learned and grown immensely through the pain, the suffering, and the loss of the self-image I had built.
So, to all the individuals who hated and attacked... I honor and appreciate you. For its through your lessons that Ive become clearer, more self-confident, and more self-aware, beyond the opinions of others. I honor you and thank you, and only wish you love and peace.
Im most indebted and grateful to those who stood with me through the perfect stormand in many cases got knocked around by part of my storm in addition to their own. We live in interesting times to say the least.
Its easy to call yourself a friend when your so-called friend is on top and everyone, including the media, appears to love him. Its a completely different situation when your friend hits rock bottom.
Its in these moments that the acquaintances and the fair-weather are separated from the true. While I may unfortunately miss some individuals, the following are the ones who reached out, stood out, and stood strong during the storm.
Bersabeh (Bear) Ray. You are my rock, and while we had not yet found each other during the initial crisis, you have continually been there to pick me back up and help put my shattered pieces back together through the arduous comeback and climb.
You believed in me and encouraged me, even when it was hard for me to believe in myself anymore. You stood steadfast and strong when I was shattered and broken, and you helped me glue back together my suffering spirit and soul. I love and appreciate you more than any words can express. The magnificent cover design you created for this book captures the essence of its contents perfectly. You have taught me the lesson of authentic love, and a piece of you is forever in my heart and in all those I am blessed to serve. Im beyond blessed to have you in my life and to call you my best friend, my partner, and my wife.
