AbundantLiving
The term abundance can besubjective due to the fact that it can have a lot of differentmeanings for different people. What I consider to be abundant forme may absolutely be different for you.
For instance, for ahardworking businessman, an abundant life could mean owning luxurythings like gadgets and cars; but for a simple housewife, abundanceis living in her dream house and enjoying life withfamily.
In John 10:10 (KJV), Jesussaid, The thief cometh not, but for tosteal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might havelife, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Many Christians oftenmisinterpret what Jesus meant in this Bible verse. When they readabundance, some think it meant material things overflowing, superfluous wealth. However, for the true Christians, Jesuspromises go far beyond material things.
Jesus promises a life thatis much better than what the human mind can comprehend. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, thethings which God hath prepared for them that love him. I Corinthians 2:9 (KJV). There are things thatJesus can do for you that you cannot imagine.
In his letter to theEphesians, Paul wrote, Now unto him thatis able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. (KJV)
But before you begin tothink about luxury cars, mansions, and around-the-world tours, youhave to consider the promises of God for your life. When you becomeaware of how He wants you to live your life, you will be in abetter position to receive the blessings He has prepared foryou.
It is human nature to wantmaterial things, however, as Christians, your perspective change. This is what the apostle Paul would like you to do, Set your affection on things above, not onthings on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid withChrist in God. Colossians 3:2-3(KJV).
In the succeedingchapters, you will learn about the 7 steps to learning how to livethe abundant life that Jesus Christ has intended foryou.
Step 1 Hold on to Gods Promises...
Being a Christian does notautomatically mean that youll have an easy life. Some peopleassume that if they become a follower, they will find specialfavors from God. For other people, they think that living a life inChrist is...boring.
Truth is, believers oftenfind themselves facing problems after problems and they are themost tested. For those Christians with weaker faith, they willeasily succumb to pressure and immediately make a turn around. Those with stronger faith, however, learn to see the challenges asGods way of making them hold on to their promises more.
When you read thescriptures, youll find passages saying that you are assured ofGods physical blessings if you follow His commandments.
The Bible is a book fullof Gods promises, and Jesus says so several times in the NewTestament. Here are just some of His promises that a lot of peoplehave practically held on to:
And whatsoever ye shallask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified inthe Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will doit. John 14:13-14 (KJV)
If ye abide in me, and mywords abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be doneunto you. John 15:7 (KJV)
And in that day ye shallask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shallask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have yeasked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joymay be full. John 16:23-24(KJV)
The above passages say onething in common Jesus will give you anything that you've askedfor. These are absolute promises and you can be sure that God istrue His word; hence, He will fulfill these promises.
When you hold on to Hispromises, expect to live in abundance.
Some people argue that ifJesus is the Lord, He should know what every persons hopes anddreams are. If He is an all-knowing God, then He should know whatwe have in our hearts. It is a valid argument but Jesus did not saythat He will give you anything you want, He says that if you cometo Him and ask Him for something through prayers, He will grantthem.
Gods promises are clear, but you have to realize that God doesnt force anybody to go toHim. Humans are given the free will to do what they want to do.Keeping that in mind, Jesus wants His followers to come to Him andrely on Him.
However, not all of Godspromises in the Bible are absolute. There are conditions that youneed to commit to in order to receive His infiniteblessings.
James 1:17 (KJV)says, Every good gift and every perfectgift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, withwhom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Jesus is like a father who only gives Hischildren good and perfect gifts. No parent would want harm onhis/her child, right? However, it is also a fact that He will notgive His children anything that would hinder His purpose forhim/her or something that would be too hard to handle.
