Forward

These are exciting times when we are here to witness the call to the Church to awake from its deception and slumber. The Author of this book has been called to do this type of work, to startle awake and to expose the schemes of the enemy of God and Gods people. I have known the author for many years to be a righteous man of God, who is after the heart of God, a worshiper and warrior of God. It is humbling and refreshing to stand with him as a co-servant of God. In this book, the Author reveals how Orisha (evil spirits) have infiltrated secular music and Christian worship services through the use of drums and other instruments. The author exposes and ties together Santeria witchcraft and the worship of Orisha and opens the eyes of believers to the schemes of the enemy. The author gives one of the best explanations and interpretations on how the Yoruba religion bring Orisha worship from Africa and released it into and throughout our modern society to the Hispanic Caribbean and then to America. He explains how the use of drums and certain beats of the drums are used to summon demons (Orisha) which attach to the listeners and the practitioners of this ancient African Religion. This book is very informative to those who wish to have knowledge on spiritual warfare against African evil spirits, Santeria and Voodoo and Kwanzaa. I highly recommend this as essential reading to all believers.

I would like to congratulate Dr. Jim Landry for writing the scholarly book, Orishas-African Hidden gods of worship. A number of years ago, I gave him some information and suggested that he write a book. It is a blessing to see the book completed. It is needed for anyone with African heritage. It can be used worldwide for those who are Christians and especially those of color. It is very good to expose the demons that attack those who have African ancestry, not only in Africa, but around the world. Not only do the common demons attack those of color, but there are special demons that attack those of color. This exposes curses on those who practice these things and the demons that go along with the curses. It should be used by anyone that takes those of color through deliverance and healing of the soul and body.

In the many years I have been in the deliverance ministry, I have not met many ministers who have had an interest in deeply researching witchcraft bondages. Many cultures have traditions that are rooted in witchcraft, and many times individuals who have converted to Christianity from those cultures believe that continuing their traditions is harmless and even good. Someone has to open their eyes! Pastor James Landry is a voice crying in the desert, opening the eyes of the spiritually blind. This book is a bondage breaker. I thank God that He has raised Dr. Landry for this important work.

Acknowledgements

I thank my wife Alberta for the many years of encouragement in this mission. It was twenty three years ago when this journey began. Authors William Bill Banks, Misti Burton, Gene Moody and my pastor Harlan Deem prayed and ministered the laying on of the hands for the Lord Jesus Christ to gift me with the ability to write and share this deception with others. I had not written any books prior to this ministry of the presbytery. Also special thanks to the following individuals who prayed for this writing and sowed financial gifts years ahead of its publishing: Pastor James Newton, Pastors Darrell & Linda Reado, Dr. David Miller, Geri McGhee, Ruthie Gadison, Alex & Jacque Pasko and William Casiano.

Preface

The inspiration to research and write about these principalities began February of 1993. I was introduced to the orisha religion by a member of our local fellowship who suggested that I should seriously consider attending an orisha presentation being presented by Dr. Sheila Walker, doctor of anthropology. During her introduction it was established of her professorship at the University of Texas and affiliation with the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Walker lecture was presented in honor of black history month. The speaker had spent many years of research, living amongst the people of Brazil. These meetings were held at Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas. The professors message was so promoted that the department asked her back two consecutive years during the observation of black history month. The orisha are found throughout Africa. Dr. Walkers lecture was centered on the peoples of the Yorubalands, West Nigeria.

Orisha (also spelled Orisa or Orixa) is a spirit or deity that reflects one of the manifestations of Olodumare (god) in the Yoruba spiritual or religious system. This religion has found its way throughout the world and is now expressed in several varieties which include Candomble, Lucumi/Santeria, Vodou, Shango in Trinidad, Anago, Oyotunji as well as some aspects of Umbanda, Winti, Obeah, Vogun and many others. These varieties or spiritual lineages as they are called are practiced throughout areas of Nigeria, the Republic of Benin, Togo, Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Suriname, Trinidad, Tobago, the United States, Venezuela and presently many nations. While estimates vary, there could be more than 100 million adherents of this spiritual tradition worldwide.

In exposing the orishas, the hidden gods of worship, it is my prayer to share with the reader what the gods of the Yoruba represent and how these principalities are masquerading themselves as gods, throughout American culture in religion, television and music, and carefully hidden to the natural man. The orisha which have their earliest known worship originating in Africa, were transferred primarily through the men of color throughout Mexico, Central America, South America, Caribbean, America and throughout the world during the early slavery years. Today Orisha worship has been forgotten by many people of color. But the orishas never gave up their works, continuing their lust for worship and power through many unsuspecting descendants and idolaters who were totally ignorant of their devices for nearly 400 years in the United States of America, and the Americas. They have infiltrated a number of secular and religious institutions that I will list specifically in this book. Originally their lust for power was centered on the descendants of the African race, but not anymore. They have been worshiped for many generations on this continent, obviously under many disguises and several different names all having their origin from Satan.
