Chrissy Schofield is like a cheerful tour guide through tragedy. She finds joy, beauty, love where others might see only sorrow. She is so close to God that its like He is sitting across her kitchen table, having breakfast with her. After reading her story, you will feel good about life and closer to God. Chrissy is a scrumptious writer; I drool over everything that comes from her tablet, and this story is a treasure.

Ive read many books and articles about lives interrupted in ways that forever shift the meaning of normal, but never have I been so personally impacted by such an account. Christina Schofield shares an insiders view of such a shift with clarity, honesty and a God-given wit that brings tears and laughter, awe and reverence. She doesnt sugarcoat her familys struggle, but deals candidly with doubt and uncertainty in a way that coaxes readers to face their own fears and yesuncertainties. Her questions come from a heart sincerely searching for answers and yearning to know Gods will.
Christinas story caused me to reexamine my own heart, and to review all I know of Gods amazing characterHis faithfulness, mercy, kindness, compassion and so much more. Truly a life-changing book, a page-turner in the very best sense; a courageous story about a couple who did not choose this path yet have anchored themselves to God, anticipating that some way, somehow, He will turn their experience into something lovely. I believe He already has.

I love this book and I encourage anyone to read it. Somehow Christina has found a way to write about her painful story with surprising honesty, humility and humor. But dont be fooled: This book is not about her. God is the main character, and cover to cover, this is a relatable story of His faithfulness to all of us in our suffering.

Some people like to wrap faith up in a box with perfect pretty paper and tie it in a bow, nice and neat. But real life isnt like thatwhen difficulties come, that false, prepackaged faith crumbles apart. Real life can be messy, painful and confusingreal life demands a real faith. Thats the kind of faith youll find in this book.
Christina is as real as it gets: honest, gutsy, authentic, raw. And through it alljourneying day-by-day through tragedy and its aftermathshes courageously joyful. Whether youre facing tragedy, a fearful situation or just the everyday jumble of difficulties, questions and emotional challenges that life throws our way, you can find hope and inspiration (and some hysterical laughs!) as you journey with Christina through the pages of this book. What a privilege it is to watch Christina and Allen as they walk together with Jesus.

One morning , in the aftermath of our calamity, I slipped away to our churchs dark, musty basement to be alone with God and to pray. As I was leaving, I passed by our churchs library. I cant explain it, but a book just seemed to jump off the shelf. Written by Catherine Marshall, it was entitled Adventures in Prayer . The cover was oldish looking and melodramatic. Id never read anything by Catherine Marshall. I always thought her more of a novelist, and I wasnt a big fiction reader. I was more into stuff by God or Dave Barry. But the pull of that book was so strong, I took it in my hand and prayed, God, I have no idea why You want me to read this book, but I will, just because Youre urging me to.
I took it home and read it in one sitting. It was an amazing little book filled with hope and inspiration. The author believed just as I did about the power of prayer, faith and Gods sovereignty. I went on the website of the books publisher, Chosen Books. At Gods leading, I contacted the editor listed there, Jane Campbell. I called her Miss Jane. I told her what my husband and I were up against. I sent her a weird string of writings from my disaster journal, as I called it.
Miss Jane was so kind, so wise, so completely perceptive. She drew this story out of this dark period of our lives with such gentleness and understanding. I know God handpicked her for me not only as an editor, but as a trusted friend. She introduced me to warm, softhearted Trish, who edited my manuscript delicately. I so appreciated that, because I am the kind of person who shrivels like dried boogers when there is the smallest hint of harshness.
Thank you to our dear families. Thanks to Ridgeview Christian Church, to Greentree Christian Church and to the hundreds of people who have offered prayers, money, hankies, service and time over these past three years.
Jim Huskey, a family friend, has been so sweet and generous that if I ever once say something like, Wow, I like your broccoli salad, he will start making it for me every other day forever or until one of us dies.
On more than one occasion Ive said, I couldnt last a minute without the Lord, but I dont think I could go a week without Kenny Salts, my brother Dan or Irene Troutt. They look after us in every way. The Jeffers family prays for us regularly and calls to ask, Whats for pizza tonight?
And I could never forget to acknowledge my favorite teacher, Mr. Schantz. He made me promise to nurture my writing pencil as well as my paintbrush.
Above all, it goes without saying that every single non-evil thing I do or hope to be is for and because of Jesus Christ, my Lord!
