Acknowledgments

Numerous people have influenced the publishing of this book. It is a pleasure to acknowledge a few of them. I am especially grateful to Bill Gillham, who first read the manuscript and called me early one morning with enthusiastic affirmation. He initiated the process that would ultimately lead to this publication. Through their warm encouragement, Bob Hawkins Jr. and Eileen Mason of Harvest House caused me to catch the vision for the work necessary to bring this book to fruition. The most helpful input in revising the book came from Bob Welch. As I followed each of his editorial suggestions, I watched the book open from bud to full bloom. I appreciate Steve Millers attentive oversight to the publication process.

This book was formed in my heart before it was typed on paper. God used many friends to fan the fire of grace in me, but I am grateful in particular to a group of intimate friends I met with each week. The love and affirmation of this Grace Group instilled faith within me to trust God to bring to pass all that He had placed in my heart. Special thanks to Bob and Sheree Lykens, Keith and Vernois Wilson, Ray and Jill Wtulich, Tony and Sherry Gordon, Danny and Sue Feagin, Ron and Wylene Buchannan, Jack and Shelly Nelson, and Cheryl Buchannan. The weekly fellowship with you dear friends ministered to me so much.

God has used many other people in molding my faith. I especially appreciate my many friends in Talladega, Alabama, whose love and encouragement was such a blessing. You folks will always hold a special place in my heart.

I also want to thank my family. My wife, Melanie, is a treasure who has always inspired and encouraged me. That fact was doubly true as the book progressed. I appreciate the willingness of my childrenAndrew, Amy, David, and Amberto give up time with their dad to allow him opportunity to write. No kids have been more loved.

Finally, I thank God for His gracious leading in the writing of this book. The Holy Spirit gave me the desire to write my testimony, incorporating the truths of our identity in Christ into it. When I began to write, I had no thoughts of it being published. Our loving Father initiated it and completed it. I give Him the glory for whatever good may come from this book.

CONTENTS

G race Walk is not a good book. Good books are most often read because theyre the current rage. Then theyre discussed for a bit at the office the next day, set on the shelf, and forgotten. This is a great book, one youll go back to again and again! Steve McVey has mined some diamonds from what the Bible calls the mystery of the gospel, which is our identity in Christ. He does an excellent job of explaining how believers can make these truths their own reality.

In order to write this book, Steve had to discover that some truths are better learned flat on your back than on your feet. After many years of successful pastoring, God let Steves productive techniques become about as effective as screen doors on a submarine. In so doing, God taught him a truth which many of us miss: the key to experiencing supernatural, liberating strength is personal weakness. Thats right, personal weakness. Gods power shows up best in weak people (2 Corinthians 12:9 TLB ). Steve uses his biblical understanding and communication skills to share with us what Paul discovered: The weaker you are, the more Gods strength can show up in you.

Most of us begin by believing that God wants strong folks to help Him accomplish His work; the truth is that the world is designed to wear down those who trust in their own strength. Through this wearing-down process, God teaches us to place our confidence in Christ, not in our own flesh. As Steve points out so skillfully, its not Gods plan that we go through our entire earth walk living a defeated Christian life. In fact, its abnormal for us to do so. God never intended for us to live a supernatural life. Jesus Christ, the supernatural Son of God, is the only One who ever has and who still does live supernaturallythrough Christians who let Him do so. Amazing as it may seem, Christ is even more than Savior and Lord; He is our very Life (Colossians 3:1-4). Steve does an excellent job of using scriptural documentation to show us that Gods plan is for you and the Spirit of Christ to cohabit your earthsuit and become dear, intimate friends as together you experience victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil.

I heartily recommend Grace Walk to every Christian desiring an intimate walk with Jesus Christ. Youre in for an exciting read.

Ten Years
of Walking in
His Grace

W hen I began to write Grace Walk ten years ago, I had no thoughts about it ever becoming a published work. My motivation in writing the book came from the sense that I was going to explode with enthusiasm if I didnt do more to share this message. Grace did what it always doesit motivated me to love Jesus more and to want to share His life and love with others. I often told people that I had grace rabies. I still have it and realize now that, thankfully, Ill never get over it!

This book itself is prime evidence of the truth it teachesthat Jesus Christ will do more through us than we could ever do for Him. Grace Walk has now been published in nine languages, with others in the works. E-mails and letters regularly arrive at our office from around the world. Space prevents my sharing the many testimonies from Christians in China, where more than 150,000 copies are circulating in the underground church; from all across Latin America, where the book has been given to tens of thousands of Christians; from believers in Japan, Korea, Australia, Africa, India, Russia. The list could go on and on.
