Proverbs 22:1721 (THE MESSAGE)
It has been said that experience is the best teacher. I submit to you a new notionwisdom is the best teacher. Accepting this new idea of wisdom as a teacher may require a bit of a paradigm shift. When wisdom is applied to your daily repertoire of decision-making and choice selection, you will experience the results of wisdom, not just for the moment but for the long haul. Selah, pause and think about that. Would you rather gain experience or gain the wisdom necessary to guarantee the result of your experience? If you intend to master money, then there is wisdom to instruct you on how to properly become a money master. If you intend to master relationships, then there is wisdom to instruct you on how to properly master your relationships. If you intend to master your health, again, wisdom exists to guide you on that journey as well. Regardless of the subject, wisdom is available to guide your daily decisions and choices toward the guaranteed experience that only comes when you apply wisdom to that area of your life. Making room in your life for the time-tested insights dispensed by wisdom will bring about the positive experiences you are desperately pursuing. I use the adjective desperate because many of you have made decisions that are directly opposed to your authentic self, and have not remained true to who you are and who you were created to be in an effort to arrive at a certain outcome. Was it really worth it? Your pursuit of wisdom, when applied, will change the tide of uncertainity and failure that plagues your mind, your actions, and the areas of your life vexed by foolish choices. Wisdom will set you on a course of life-long success. This book is meant to be a quick reference guide, not a substitute of your personal pursuit of wisdom. I have come to know that the greatest source of wisdom is the creator of wisdom, God Almighty, and my prayer is that you will come to experience and know Him as well.
What does wisdom consist of?
It is clearly communicated in the book of Proverbs that when wisdom enters your heart, she will bring companions of discretion and understanding with her (Proverbs 2:1011).
When wisdom enters your heart and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you. (NKJV)
Wisdom will control your mind, and you will be pleased with knowledge. Sound judgment and good sense will watch over you. (CEV)
Wisdom is comprised of three main ingredients:
The knowledge to discern.
Skill to judge: The ability to make keen decisions.
Activity to prosecute
Knowledge to discern Merriam Websters dictionary defines discern as to detect with the eyes or with the senses other than vision, to be able to recognize or identify.
How many times have you said to yourself, If I knew then what I know now, I would have made a different choice or I would have acted differently. How about the popular phrases, hindsight is 20/20 or Monday morning quarterback? A component of wisdom is the knowledge to discern, the knowledge to see past what meets the human eye, the knowledge to detect or sense things that are not spoken or seen in order to arrive at the best course of action.
