What You Should Now Before Reading This Book
When your home is disorganized, how can you expect any part of your life to be organized? The fact is when you set your mind you would organize your home or office; the organization will help other aspects of your life.
Chapter 1
Starting the process to de-clutter can be overwhelming. When you decide to dive in and organize your life, many people have a tendency to make small little piles around the house. After an hour or two, you will see ten to twenty little piles all over your home- and no closer to a organized life. You may even think, Theres got to be a better way to do this?
So now what? What is the best process to organize your life?
Start small- maybe even very small- like completely organize one drawer. When completed with that one drawer, you will know when you open it, your postage stamps are in that drawer. The most important part of the de-cluttering process is when you organize one area, dont allow the area to be filled with clutter again.
When you get one area organized, you are ready to repeat the process to another area until you have a whole room organized. It is helpful if you start slow. Many times, if you try to organize the whole house in one day, two weeks later you will revert to the old ways of total mayhem. Small changes ensure the changes will last.
Chapter 2
The key is you must make a commitment that you will never let the clutter take over your home again. Part of the commitment, must be making sure every item in your home has a place and you and your family members put it in the right place. Doing this, will greatly reduce the clutter possibility in your home or office. For example, make a deal with yourself that no matter what- your kitchen counters will never become the generalized storage area for your home.
Think of it sort of like when you take a medication for an illness. Lets use an antibiotic for an example. Your doctor tells you have an ear infection. To get rid of the infection, you must take your medicine. The medicine works to get rid of the infection. De-cluttering is the same way; you clear off the countertops, swearing never to have them infected with disorganization, again.
The most important step in de-cluttering your life is preventing it from ever being a problem in your life. If you do not have a prevention plan, you will likely have to start all over in one, two or six months down the road.
It is exactly like losing weight. Literally, anyone can lose weight. It takes tackling the reason you gained weight to keep the weight off long term. The same is true for organizing your home. You have to figure out why you allowed your home to become such a cluttered mess in order for history not to repeat itself.
