A CKNOWLEDGMENTS
As I prepared to write this book, I solicited insights and opinions from some of my friends. As we prayed and pondered together, their feedback and input about where God is taking us in worship was valuable and helpful. Im very grateful for how eagerly and willingly the following friends engaged with me on this topic: Caleb Culver, Tim Fortin, Chris Abke, Diatra Langford, Chris DuPre, Clayton Brooks, David Forlu, David Lugo, Dick Grout, Jaye Thomas, Katie Reed, Laura Souguellis, Mary Alessi, Rita Springer, Emma Hawthorne, Jake Stemo, Alan Goke, Matthew Penner, Chris Tofilon, Justin Rizzo, Will Riddle, Zac Dinsmore, Brenton Dowdy, Mark Hendrickson, J.D. King, Josh Sullivan, Drew Smith, and Ruben Cervantes.
Im so grateful to God for these, and for all my friends in the worshiping community of Christ, who are reaching with me for the greatest waves of the Holy Spirit history has seen.
Chapter 1
W HERE I S G OD T AKING U S IN W ORSHIP ?
T HATS THE QUESTION Im tackling in this book. A lot of people are wanting to know the answer to that question!
Get ready to be surprised.
The global shockwaves that began in 2020 have awakened us to the realization that our world will never return to what it was. The rate of global change is accelerating. Its a new era for virtually everythingworship and church included.
I watched in astonishment in 2020 as the doors of churches literally around the world were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Lords words in Malachi 1:10 came to mind,
Who is there even among you who would shut the doors, so that you would not kindle fire on My altar in vain? I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of hosts, Nor will I accept an offering from your hands.
God had shut our doors, and I couldnt help but ask, Lord, is there something about our worship that Youre wanting to address?
Many churches took their worship services online, and leaders were grateful we had this option available to us. It meant our services could reach people in spaces we would have never reacheda marvelous benefit.
