They followed a different course of evolution than the line that led to humans. We live in the same world but sense it in different ways, and use different strategies in facing natures challenges. A few years ago the Monterey Bay Aquarium had a show about the deep ocean, described as Same planetDifferent world. Just look around any outdoor garden and you will see groups of creatures whose world and sensations of the world are so completely alien from ours that they might as well live on another planet.

Researching this book gave me a new appreciation of all of these organisms and their unique roles in nature. I observed how the will to thrive spurs nature to evolve creatures that may look or seem weird to us, but that have perfect form and function for their lifestyle
