Back Cover
looks life in the face and says, You cant beat me.
Knows love is risk but reaches out anyway.
Understands kindness takes real courage.
Believes the impossible.
Fights like shes unstoppable.
Dares to find beauty in a ragged soul.
Scandalously picks warm over cool.
Tastes life as a brief, salty-sweet miracle.
Skins her knees, has scars that bear witness.
Defends like a warrior and weeps like a girl.
Makes gentle the new strong, small the new big,
ordinary the new extraordinary.
Sees wrinkles on a face as lines in a victory story.
Never gives in, never gives up, never lets go.
Chases Jesus with a tender, world-changing wildness.
Lives in your neighborhood or not even on your continent.
Looked back at you from the mirror this morning...
and has yet to fully see the force her star-scattering,
mountain-moving, water-walking God created her to be.
If you ever get a little tired of lifes battles, this is for you.
If you wrestle with fear or insecurity, this is for you.
If you ever feel unsure youre going to have victory, this is for you.
Its for me, too, because I can relate to all the above. I also know what its like to come to a new place of feeling strong, brave, and loved.
By strong I dont mean faking it and trying to hide our limp; I mean knowing we are women in a battle, beautiful warriors who cannot be overcome.
By brave I dont mean reckless or forceful; I mean having the courage to face whatever comes our way, to walk in holy confidence and be okay with whats messy or uncertain.
By loved I dont mean what we know in our heads; I mean living in the truth of who God is and who he says we are even when the lies were tempted to believe are hissing in our ears.
We may not have ever met, but I believe with all my heart that you are a woman created by God who has been placed here for such a time as this. Whatever youre going through now, whatever has happened to you in the past, cant change your identity or destiny.
You dont have to be defined by your circumstances.
You dont have to be defeated by your struggles.
You dont have to settle for less than Gods best in your life.
I know this is true because Ive lived it. In a particularly difficult season, I typed out the words of the Fiercehearted piece you read at the start of this book on a plane in the dark, sniffling into a too-small napkin and trying not to scare my seatmate. I felt disappointed by life and I thought about giving up. But Jesus met me in that moment, and what poured out of my heart became the beginning of a life-changing revolution in my world and turned into my book Fiercehearted.
After Fiercehearted released, thousands of women read it, and through their responses it became clear there was so much more to be said. So this devotional builds on the themes of that book and ties them to Scriptures, prayers, and ways to apply truth in our lives. (You dont need to read Fiercehearted to benefit from this devotional. Dont wait another minute to start embracing the victory thats rightfully yours.) Some of the content is brand-new and some has been curated from other places, like my blog and freelance work. Every word has been carefully created and chosen to encourage, equip, and empower you to live as an overcomer.
