Scriptures Way to Live Each Day Juliette Garesch Illustrated by R. W. Alley
Abbey Press Foreword When we have important choices before us, it is sometimes difficult to discern Gods will in the matter. Whether choosing a college, an employer, or a spouse, God gives us a great deal of choice and a great deal of guidance. The Bible teaches us how to prioritize our life through parables, proverbs, commandments, and examples from Christs life. The Bible advises, He who keeps the commandments keeps his life [Proverbs 19:16].
God does not force a choice upon us, but has given us the gift of free will. It is up to each of us to read the Bible, to know the Word of God, and to find a setting where we are encouraged to become all that God designed us, individually and uniquely, to be. My intent in writing this book was to highlight some of Gods teachings so that you find it easier to choose a rewarding and God-honoring life that gives you peace. 1. Your first and most important choice is whether you will believe in God. God wants to be at the center of your life. If you love God, it follows that you will try to live a God-honoring life.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. Matthew 22:37-38 2. Seek to know the Lord. Own a Bible and read it. The choice to know the Creator, the Healer, the Great I AM can be the most rewarding decision of your life. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
Psalm 119:105 3. Choose your attitude carefully, every day. Do you wake with a grudge, or see the day as a gift? This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 4. Spend time in prayer. It is an honor that God invites us into prayer communication. Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. Matthew 7:7 5. If you are lacking in faith, ask God for the gift of faith and then step forward believing God has given it to you.
And Jesus answered them, Have faith in God. So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:22, 24 6. Manage your expectations and emotions (especially anger). Those who are hot-tempered stir up strife, but those who are slow to anger calm contention. Proverbs 15:18 7. Be tolerant of others, remembering that you too will need forgiveness for mistakes, poor judgment, and selfishness. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22 8. Manage your fears. Many of us worry about things over which we have no control. Make the best choices you can and then let goand let God. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord God you have an everlasting rock. Isaiah 26:4 9. Try to get along with everyone. There are all different types of people in the world.
If someone is irritating you, try to see the good in them because they too are a cherished child of God. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:18 10. Choose to look deeper than physical beauty. Look at character. 1 Samuel 16:7 11. Choose your friends carefully. 1 Samuel 16:7 11. Choose your friends carefully.
The friends who surround you have a strong influence on the choices you make in life. Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20 12. Parents who choose to instruct their children to honor God will experience great joy in raising their children. Train a child in the right way, and when old, they will not stray. Proverbs 22:6 13. Choose to be a good steward. Share of your God-given time, talents, and treasures.
Like good stewards of the manifold grace of God, serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received. 1 Peter 4:10 14. You have a part to play within your city, nation, and the world. Remember to take advantage of all the opportunities you have to make the world a better place. You are the light of the world let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14, 16 15. How do you use your resources in respect to others and community? How many shoes, pillows, electronic gadgets, or toys does one need? Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 16. God encourages hard work and a just reward.
Although God does not prohibit wealth, He is more interested in your heart, your motives, and your intentions. Whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters Colossians 3:23
