Dark Pool of Light, Volume Three: The Crisis and Future of Consciousness: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Dark Pool of Light, Volume Three: The Crisis and Future of Consciousness" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

In books like Embyogenesis and Embryos, Galaxies, and Sentient Beings, author Richard Grossinger brought together the subjects of biological embryology and the esoteric process of human consciousness becoming embodied (The embryo is the universe writing itself on its own body). In Dark Pool of Light, his three-volume series of books discussing the nature of reality and consciousness, Grossinger weaves neuroscience-based behaviorism and the phenomenology of being and reality together with psychological and psychospiritual views of that single thing which is most difficult to understand or vindicate: our own existence.
In 2008, Grossinger began studying with noted psychic teacher John Friedlander, who helped him refine his vision of cerebral and somatic awareness to still-subtler levels. Dark Pool of Light began unnamed in the journals of my psychic work with John Friedlander, says Grossinger, not so much a record of actual practices as insights from them and extensions out of them.
This expansive inquiry into the nature of consciousness ends with this third volume in the series, The Crisis and Future of Consciousness. Grossinger addresses the perennial question of evil and shares the authors hopes and fears for the future of humanity. While wisdom gleaned from such seemingly disparate sources as science, philosophy, religion, and spirituality might appear very, very different things, Grossinger nevertheless finds their meeting place in subjective, lived experience.

Looking back over the years, I feel that I have received seven major teachings. Once I got each, in turn, it changed who I was, the nature of my life, and how I proceeded thereafter. The first (ages eight to ten) was the symbolic basis of reality and the role of the unconscious; my teachers were psychiatrists Abraham Fabian and Maurice Friend and my stepmother Bunny Grossinger. The second was writingpatching into the cosmic, cultural flow; my mentors (ages sixteen to eighteen) were Kingsley Ervin (my high-school teacher) and Charles Stein (my classmate). The third was the Western occult and magical thinking (ages eighteen to twenty); my teachers were Carl Jung (by way of his writings) and poet Robert Kelly (who gave me a direct transmission).

The fourth was businesshow to get free of academia and earn a living in the marketplacemy mentors were lobsterfishermen and dealers in Bernard/Bass Harbor, Maine, notably Wendell Seavey and Lester Radcliffe. I was twenty-five and doing ethnographic fieldwork; their lessons didnt take until I was thirty-six and living in Berkeley, California. The catalyst was Charlie Winton, head of Publishers Group West. I was slow to come to the recognition that business could be something other than the New York Jewish male-initiation rituals carried out by my father and stepfather in their offices.

The fifth was daily practice itself; its vehicles were tai chi chuan, meditation, and diet. It took the longest time to internalize and enact (ages thirty-one to forty-eight). My mentors were Andy Shapiro, Paul Pitchford, Polly Gamble, and Richard Strozzi-Heckler. The sixth was the reception and uses of somatic energy: craniosacral therapy plus a second run at Taoist martial arts (ages forty-four to forty-nine)my instructors: Randy Cherner, Amini Peller, John Upledger, Frank Lowen, Peter Ralston, Ron Sieh. The seventh was cultivating a psychic vibration and attuning my chakras to the means and uses of spirit (ages sixty-four to sixty-seven); my guides were the staff and students of the Berkeley Psychic Institute, notably director Javier Thistlethwaite, and then after I left BPI, John Friedlander, Patricia Fox, and Emily Davis.

Each of these teachers played a key role in this book. Muchas Gracias.

That of which we cannot speak, we must pass over in silence.

It is often remarked that nothing we do now will matter in a million years , then by the same token, nothing that will be the case in a million years matters now. In particular, it does not matter now that in a million years nothing we do now will matter. Moreover, even if what we did now were going to matter in a million years, how could that keep our present concerns from being absurd? If their mattering now is not enough to accomplish that, how would it help if they mattered a million years from now? [M]ankind will eventually perish without a trace.
