I,myself, am not an American Native. I was born in the Czech Republicand came to the USA at the age of 4 with my parents. Now as a youngchild, I picked up the English language quite fast, however myparents did not. As adults, of course, its much more difficultto learn a second language, let alone English, which is not thateasy! They took English as a second language courses at a localcommunity college and watched easy to understand TVshows, which was all fine and helped them learn the language, but ifthey had Kens book at that time, back in the 1980s,they really would have scored!
