FOREWORD
I was honored when Dr. Rolando Stephen Toyos asked me to write the foreword of his book on gaining admission and succeeding in medical school. Medical school has experienced incredible changes in the last few years. The emphasis on what medical schools are looking for in applicants has changed. Gone are the days when students are selected based only on their command of undergraduate science courses. Schools are looking for multidimensional students who not only can handle their science courses but are equipped with keen interpersonal skills. Because schools are requiring more of their applicants, the process of applying for admission has become more complex. Dr. Toyos's book provides the student with a step-by-step approach to gain acceptance into medical school. I believe as a bonus the book offers many strategies on how to select a school, receive financial aid, gain acceptance after being rejected, and achieve maximum performance once in medical school.
