A Perfect Tour of Athens
Day 1
Acropolis and around
Get to the Acropolis before the crowds, walking up from Acropolis metro station along pedestrianised Dionysou Areopagtou and perhaps taking in the Theatre of Dionysos en route. Descend via Plka, stopping at a low-key local museum such as the Kanellopoulos. Have lunch around Monastirki, perhaps at Kapnikarea (with live music). Time it so that you arrive at the New Acropolis Museum late in the afternoon, with the Parthenon catching the setting sun while you admire the pediments on the top floor. Treat yourself to an upmarket supper at Edodi or Mani-Mani.
Day 2
Kolonki museums
From Evangelisms metro station the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Byzantine and Christian Museum are both just a short walk away, as is the National Gallery all enhanced by temporary exhibitions. After lunch (and perhaps a spot of shopping) in Kolonki, visit the Benaki Museum. Pangrti neighbourhood is a likely destination for dinner.
