Acknowledgments
In writing this book, I drew on more than 100 studies and discoveries made by top medical researchers and immunologists at many of the nation's leading medical centers. Each study was unique in that it focused on bolstering the vigor of the immune system without medical treatment or drugs. As a health reporter, my role was then to organize the best of these natural techniques into a self-care program that anyone can use to bolster his or her immunity. Many of the studies I drew on were authored by prominent researchers in the fields of immunology, cancer research, behavioral medicine and molecular and cellular biology. I regret not being able to acknowledge them all.
However, I must acknowledge my debt to the extensive research carried out by David W. Acheson, M.D., Director of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Tufts New England Medical Center, Boston; Herbert Benson, M.D., Mindbody Medical Institute, Harvard Medical School, Cambridge, MA; Jeffrey B. Blumberg, M.D., associate director, Jean Mayer Health and Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (also HNRC's Nutritional Immunology Lab), Somerville, MA; Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., Mindbody Health Sciences, Inc., Denver; David
