Quantum physics is the most important area of study of the 20 th and 21 st century, not only because of the huge leap in science that allowed us to take a peek at the fabric of the universe, but because it had and has huge implications on our everyday life: almost every piece of technology owes a debt to the scientific discoveries of quantum mechanics.
Not only that, the discoveries made at the turn of the 20 th century that kicked off the study of quantum physics have had huge repercussion on philosophy, our way to interpret reality, but even literature, music, and last but not least, sci-fi, comics, and movies.
Some concepts are widely famous: Heisenbergs Uncertainty Principle and Schrdingers cat, and who hasnt dreamt of travelling faster than light after having seen the Millennium Falcon?
While we may have a broad, pop-culture-inflated idea of what quantum physics is, we dont know what it is exactly, what are the major discoveries, its origin, and its challenges. Dont worry! Even the physicists who are currently studying it, have barely started to scratch the surface of its mysteries. So much is unknown and uncertain, that it can be daunting; but you shouldnt be discouraged, it should be seen as a challenge, a way to expand our horizons, and challenge our convictions of how reality works.
So much in science is tested and proven and decided; isnt it exciting to immerse ourselves in something in which all possibilities are wide open?
