T hese days, the trend is to denounce the great achievements of ancient India. Interestingly, it got a powerful momentum in the post- British era, though such attitudes are considered ridiculous and strange in other parts of the globe. Russian textbooks carry conscious efforts to flaunt the Russian involvement in every scientific and cultural milestone of mankind. Same is the case with every developed nation. They make every generation proud of their tradition through well-orchestrated efforts. As a nation, the USA's history is less than 300 years old. Major chunk of their population consists of migrants from various countries. Even though these communities have created their own individuality, all citizens are very much proud of their national achievements in the fields of space science, technology, etc.
So, it is evident that a society can progress only through self-respect and willpower, by knowing and realizing themselves. Ramayana says Hanumanji's morale was boosted by the enlightening reminder by Jambava about the incredible power he had displayed, when he was a child. So, here is the moral of the story: if you have to scale great heights, be proud of yourself and possess the highest degree of self-respect.
Among the various foreign invaders who attacked our great nation for more than 2000 years, the Britons were very much different. All others - Greeks, Huns, Shakas, Muslims, etc. who had attacked, suppressed and ruled here over centuries did not pollute or infect our cultural consciousness. But, the Britishers wrecked our cultural, as well as eternal values to a great extent. They ruled India for more than 200 years, not only through administrative powers but also by cultural invasion to the mindscape of the Indian society. They left India on 15th August 1947 but made sure that the seeds of mental enslavement they sowed here, remain deep-rooted. So, even after independence, India was ruled by a band of leadership with a colonial mindset, as Lord Macaulay envisaged a century before. Because of this, our great knowledge, values, heritage, etc. were ignored or marginalised into a dangerous level; society became pessimistic and it fell into a pathetic inferiority complex. This is the core reason for the backwardness, our country has been suffering for the last several decades.
This book is about one of the greatest knowledge systems India has produced. It is about the astronomic evidence of our all-time epic, the Mahabharatha and the great war ever fought in the history of mankind, by using modern, as well as traditional calculations. So, it will be extremely helpful to put an end to the speculations and allegations over the scientific shreds of evidence of Indian wisdom. Dr. Raja has deployed his entire efforts to make this great work, so remarkable, and Kurukshetra Prakashan considers it a privilege to publish the book with great pride.

F or any Nation, its history is the most important one, as history of a Nation, either can give confidence, proud and joy or on the other hand, inferiority complex, dishonor and shame to its people. Hence, teaching correct history in a thorough manner is very essential to any Nation. History should not hide the greatest moments and victories of a Nation and should not create false notions and wrong beliefs in the peoples mind, paving way to feel ashamed and unworthy of the Nations past and ones own ancestors. This is because, teaching wrong history with wrong chronology can become the root cause, for all the problems of the Nation and it will make the Nation to downfall sooner or later. This is applicable to all Nations including ours. Hence, we have to analyse our teaching curriculum on our Nations history. If we do a perfect and unprejudiced research and analysis of what we read and taught as our Nations history, we can find, it is full of short comings, misconceptions, inconsistencies, paradoxes, wrong notions, assumptions, prejudices and contradictions. This become much clear and easily visible, due to the recent scientific and technological developments in Marine Archeology with its inundation studies and bathymetric technique, Cosmology, Geology, newer excavations, newer inscriptions and their correct deciphering, proper understanding of literature and the

new development of astronomical inferences. Hence, rewriting our Nations history becomes the top priority in developing our Nation, as invincible and strong.
To rewrite our Nations history, we have to start it with correct and exact fixation of the date of Mahabharata war. This is because, Mahabharata war was a PAN Bharatian event where almost all regions of our Nation had participated. Besides, Purana describe the chronology of later events that occurred in our Nation after Mahabharata war. Hence, the date of Mahabharata war is the proper sheet anchor, from which the correct chronology of our Nation can be derived. To fix the date of Mahabharata war, one can use the astronomical evidences described within the Mahabharata text of Veda Vyasa. The book used the trigonometric mathematical calculations and other procedures described in the ancient astronomical texts of our Nation to derive the positions of Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, Venus and Mercury and Rahu and Ketu (Ascending and Descending Nodes of Moon) and the occurrences of Eclipses. The calculations of these ancient astronomical texts gave the correct and exact results for thousands of years. It can be reproducible and these texts developed methods to include the elliptical and eccentric orbits. Hence it is well established, authentic and scientific. Since no other scholar has used it to derive the date of Mahabharata war, this book is the pioneer
