Chapter One
Heyo!
My name is Theodora Taylor.
Im an Amazon Top 10 Bestselling author of contemporary, sci-fi, and shifter romance. And
Thats it.
Seriously, thats it.
I dont have any superlatives above my name. USA Today or NYT Bestseller? Nope! As of this writing, Ive never made a bestseller list outside of the Kindle store as Theodora Taylor. RWA Awards? Nada! Ive never even applied.
But I do make about
a quarter of a million dollars a year.
To some writers, thats impressive.
To some, thats like, Meh! I made that last February.
But Im particularly proud of my annual $250K+ because I write what I want and whatever I want in a niche category called Interracial Romance (or IR as those of us who adore the category call it). My heroines are exclusively women of color, and some of my heroes are men of color too. On top of that, I do a lot of things that writers with good business sense dont
  1. I have no design background, but Ive often insisted on making my own covers.
  2. I write in a non-mainstream category.
  3. And within that category, I hop genres: contemporary romance, bully, mafia, shifters, dark, aliens, romantic suspenseI do it all, often within the same series!
  4. My original target audience is tiny compared to that of most romance writers.
  5. I dont have a Facebook readers group because I dont like commitment outside of marriage.
  6. And as many of my readers can tell you, my themes, tropes, and steam levels are rarely consistent across my author brand.
Yet, I make what many would call a good living, and Ive been fortunate enough to earn over seven figures in the last few years of my writing career.
Listen, Im OBSESSED with crafting books so delicious and enthralling that tons of satisfied readers will catapult my earnings to 7 figures per year. Thats why this book is called 7 Figure Fiction .
Its a milestone. Its a target. Its a burning desire .
And if youre reading this book, I imagine you share my love of writing irresistible stories for voracious readers who cant wait to gobble up what you write.
But theres just one thing standing in your way: You dont know if readers will love what youre writing.
Lets note here that not all writers have this question. Many successful creatives craft stories for themselves without the worry of what their audiences will think. Good on them. Those authors should keep on trucking and do what they do bestnothing to see here.
This book is for the following type of writer:
THE NEWBIE: Youre just starting out, and you have no idea if what youre writing will resonate with audiences. Its difficult, verging on paralyzing, to put words to paper because you feel so uncertain about whether your scenes and situations will hit the spot with potential readers. You fear that a poor launch with a poor reader response will discourage you from ever trying to write again.
THE GAMBLER: Youve got a few books under your belt, and it STILL feels like youre rolling the dice every time you upload a book. Sometimes your new releases soar, and sometimes they belly-flopnot in a funny way, but with a hard, painful smack that leaves bruises and mental scars. You HATE not knowing which one it will be while youre crafting your novel.
THE ABANDONER: Youre tip-tap-typing along on your work in progress when a pervading sense of doom stops your fingers in their tracks. SOMETHING IS WRONG with your book. You dont know what it is, but you sense something isnt quite jelling with the storys situations and/or characters. Youve amassed a pile of unfinished drafts on your desktop that deserve to be finished. But you dont know how to proceed with that icky feeling in the pit of your stomach. Oh, the guilt!
THE BLANK: Youve written yourself into a corner with a side charactera friend or a sibling of a character who deserves their own story. When is X going to get their own book? your readers demand. They hound you about this characters novel and post comments under every new release. But the thing is, youve got nothing. Oh, dear
THE ENTERTAINER: Your main goal is to consistently write books that readers will ENJOY. The actual writing barely matters because its about ENTERTAINING the reader. Perhaps youre transitioning from a career in an audience-obvious performing art like acting, music, or dramatic writing. So that old advice of just write the book you want to read doesnt do it for you. You want to KNOW that what youre writing will attract and entertain readers. You live for 5-star reviews and fan mail that lets you know your audience ADORED your book.
THE GRIZZLED HEART: youve written so many books that youve lost connection to the heart of a good novel. Youve begun to feel like a hack, and you worry that youve lost your connection with your readers. You miss the original love you had for telling stories, and you long for your wide-eyed ingenue days like a former starlet yearns for her original youthful face underneath all that plastic surgery.
You know, my heart ached as I wrote out this list. Before I discovered the power of Universal Fantasy, I was each of these writers .
Now, I turn around novels in 46 weeks, but it took me years to write my first book because I was paralyzed by the fear of everyone hating it. And throughout my career, Ive suffered through all the feelings listed above.
Until I discovered the one tool that helped me overcome the worst of my will they like it? anxieties, market my backlist books like a beast to readers outside my target audience, and double my income. Most importantly, this tool allowed me to craft irresistible books that delivered non-stop feels and thrills.
And that tool is Universal Fantasy .
If youre any (or many) of the above types of writers, think of this book as a gift. Inside, you will find a magic pair of glasses that will allow you to see the things you and others create in a new way.
These glasses will open your eyes to things youve never seen before in your own writing and help you market in a way that attracts readers who have never heard of you. After putting on these glasses, youll also have a much easier time during the writing process.
But BE WARNED
What is seen with these glasses cant be unseen. Once you discover the power of Universal Fantasy, you wont be able to undiscover it.
Youll see it everywhere, and youll have trouble returning to your old, audience-disconnected way of writing and thoughtless consumption of entertainment.
Once known, Universal Fantasy will set up a permanent home in your head, always buzzing in the background. Youll be able to ignore itbut youll never be able to forget it.
So this is where you should stop reading if youre truly satisfied with your current writing life.
But if youre not afraidif youre ready to know the secret hidden inside all bestselling stories, open the gift.

What is HAPPENING?
Why I got angryyes, angrythe first time I made the Amazon Top 100
So why was I so angry the first time one of my books made it into the Top 100 for the entire Kindle store? For the answer to that question, lets go back to me in 2011
