One of the things that has inspired me in the course of my life has been the desire to solve the great mysteries of the universe. I have always thought everything was possible. Even the most far-out ideas must be considered. From the beginning of my broadcast career, Ive wanted to cover the stories that most media outlets would never touch: the strange, the mysterious, and the paranormal. I found that talking to people on the radio was the best way to explore these ideas, which Ive been doing since I was twenty-one!
My efforts in broadcasting have been about working my way through the system, going from newscaster to executive producer in Detroit, then to news director in Minneapolis, and on to St. Louis. But I found that when truly interesting stories involving unusual occurrences came through the newsroom, most people in the business would shy away from them. What really bothered me, however, was when people at the station would joke about these reports. Adding to my frustration, when it came to UFOs, politicians, military officials, and scientists would scoff at the possibilities that had so fascinated me ever since I was young. Because of their mystery and oddity, UFOs remain, for me, the mother of all paranormal occurrences.
Wanting to look deeper into the mysteries, I started Nighthawk, a late-night radio program in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1996. Being one of the first news reporters to seriously consider UFO sightings, I was able to bring a sense of legitimacy to some seemingly outrageous stories. One of the reasons Coast to Coast AM, started by Art Bell, is so well respected is that it comes from a professional broadcast experience. Now with millions of listeners nightly, I feel my training and inquisitive nature have brought some degree of satisfaction to people looking for answers to the bigger questions of life.
At speaking engagements, when somebody asks how I got interested in the paranormal and UFOs, I say it goes back to my teenage years. At thirteen, my mother gave me the book We Are Not Alone by the great New York Times science writer Walter Sullivan, which opened a world of vast horizons. After I found the 1966 Look magazine article on the Betty and Barney Hill incident, I joined the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP). Another book that brought me into a greater awareness of the phenomena was The UFO Evidence, edited by Richard H. Hall and published by NICAP. This is still one of the most valuable resources I have found, summarizing hundreds of NICAP investigations involving the unexplained sightings of military personnel, pilots, scientists, and engineers. The book clued me in to the bigger questions about UFOs regarding electromagnetism, radar tracking, sudden disappearances of craft, unusual vibrational presence, and the strange physical symptoms of close encounters. I am still looking into these unexplained topics, but as a young boy they created a need in me to find out more. It became my lifes mission to talk to people who knew the secrets to these and other mysteries.
All of this led me to the first interview I ever did on the radio, with the godfather of Ufology, the late Stanton Friedman. You could say that interview with Stanton directed the course of my radio career. Now more than thirty years later, I am convinced that the extraordinary is real. It doesnt matter how far-fetched it may sound, theres always a chance to learn something new and consider more unknown possibilities, including such things as other dimensions, teleportation, and warp-speed travel. I feel that if we can think it, it can be created.
UFOs are still one of the favorite subjects for me and my audience. Throughout the years of doing interviews, as well as my own research, it is clear that the phenomenon has touched millions. Now finally it is all coming to the forefront as being more acceptable and media-friendly. Not laughing like they used to, people are starting to take it seriously, realizing Oh my gosh, maybe it is real. Maybe it is happening, especially now with the Pentagons acknowledgment of unexplained aerial phenomena (UAP), as well as increased sightings worldwide as have been reported on my program over the years from such places as the National UFO Reporting Center out of Davenport, Washington. If aliens exist (and they seem to, based on what multitudes of callers have reported), they are not here to invade. They might be here to uplift us. It seems to me that whatever is out there is waiting for us to grow up and take some responsibility for the mess weve made. Taking all this into account, the fallacy of our aloneness in a vast universe (and perhaps other universes) is a no-brainer. How can thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, of my guests, callers, military personnel, pilots, and the general public be wrong about what they have witnessed?
After years of interviewing and investigating, I am pretty much convinced that the cosmos is pulsating with life. However, I feel were not going to have a news conference about it on the White House lawn. What I have said for years is that even when the government admits to a small kernel of truth, they are not going to tell us everything. The real truth is going to come from people like the late Edgar Mitchell, the Apollo 14 astronaut, and others who just say, Enough is enough. Im going to tell it the way I see it. What I know. And Im coming forward with it. Real disclosure is in the process, and it is coming from people who are talking about their experiences. I am so happy my program has provided a forum for people to speak out. It feels like the movement is growing toward a paradigm-shifting vision of reality. Concerning UFOs and their occupants, the jury is still out as to the who, what, and why of their visits here. Whether these visitors are extraterrestrial, interdimensional, time travelers, or a combination of all three, is still something that needs to be discovered.
Whichever, the world is waking up to something that can no longer be denied. The glass ceiling of secrecy is cracking. Mainstream broadcasting outlets are now reporting on related topics like near death experiences, past lives, and psychic powers.
