Preface
The First International Conference on Emerging Technology Trends in Internet of Things and Computing (TIOTC 2021) was organized by Al-Maarif University College, Al-Iraqia University, Salahaddin University, and Tishk International University, taking place (virtually) in the city of Erbil, Iraq, during June 68, 2021. TIOTC is an international conference focused on the latest topics related to computer science, the Internet of Things (IOT), computer networks and security, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning.
Emerging technology is going to give a new dimension to the way we perform our everyday activities, leading to rapid advances in key areas of computer and information technology, such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence (AI), and their practical and theoretical applications. There are, therefore, challenges due to the changing nature of communications and computing in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. There is a huge amount of technology currently available, but the content is sometimes not specified or is significantly unemployed. Meaningfully deploying the content of these techniques relies on a comprehensive understanding of the vast number of technologies that are available today.
The Internet of Things (IoT) plays an important role in the current and future generation of information, networks, communication, and applications. Smart IoT is an exciting emerging research field that has great potential to transform both our understanding of fundamental computer science principles and our standard of living. IoT systems include heterogeneous, interacting, intelligent things, and distributed. In order to tackle challenges related to IoT, it is very important to have a better understanding of IoT applications in terms of reliable communication in constantly changing networks; heterogeneity and scalability; secure information handling and privacy preservation; and integrating and mediating things within intelligent systems.
The main aim of this conference was to gather state-of-the-art solutions that support robust systems with the ability to operate in dynamic and changing environments, including methods for industry and real-world problems. The theme of this conference was Emerging Technology on Internet of Things (IoT). Papers focusing on this theme were solicited, addressing applications in science and technology.
TIOTC 2021 received 182 submissions from authors in 19 countries around the world. All of the submitted manuscripts addressed either a theoretical or practical perspective that related to an aspect of the conference or presented relevant applications. All manuscripts underwent through a rigorous peer-review process and each paper received a minimum of three peer reviews. Based on the review reports, the Program Committee decided to accept only 27 papers for presentation at the conference, resulting in a strong program with an acceptance rate of less than 21%. The selected papers were distributed into main four tracks: Internet of Things (IoT): Services and Applications; IoT in Healthcare Industry; IoT in Communications and Distributed Computing; and Real World Application Fields in Information Science and Technology. All of the selected papers are included in this volume of proceedings published in Springers Communications in Computer and Information Science (CCIS) series.
We would like to thank the Program Committee, locally and internationally, and the reviewers for their collective time and effort in reviewing and soliciting the papers. Special thanks go to the team at Springer for their continuous support in publishing the proceedings. Finally, we also owe a great debt to all the researchers who submitted high-quality papers to our conference: TIOTC 2021.
