India has traditionally been the land of storytellers and a lot of us have an inherent skill of creating good plots, good stories and good narrations. With a little encouragement and support, many more authors will be widely read and attain a place in the sun. This is the essence of Readomaniaan initiative that nurtures emerging stars of the literary world.

It would not be an exaggeration to say that Readomania is the talent hunt in fiction. It goes a step beyond by not just identifying the talent but also nurturing it and showcasing it to the world. In the process, we have created a powerhouse of content.

Readomania has four principle interest areas traditional print publishing, online library of short stories and poetry, literary events and products.

The print publishing works towards delivering good quality content to the readers. We publish good authors in meaningful anthologies, novels and works of narrative non-fiction. Our books stand out for their perspectives, the plots, the language and most importantly their ability to enrich lives.

The three people to whom I owe everything:

My mother, Mala Joshi Sharma. The talented singer/writer who inspires me every day.

My father, Surender Sharma. The most honest, most helpful man I know.

My sister, Prachi Gautam. You are an exceptional human being. This world needs more people like you.

Pornography: Printed or visual material containing the explicit description or display of sexual organs or activity, intended to stimulate sexual excitement.

I NTRODUCTION

T his book is not about my opinions on the subject, it is not about judging pornography as good or bad, and it is definitely not about religious or conservative values. This book is about understanding how internet porn impacts our sexuality/kids/relationships through scientific evidence and advice from experts.

Sex is one of the most fundamental of human needs. How sex impacts us humans goes a lot deeper than the actual act of sex; it seeps into every aspect of human life. Work, education, art, culture, everything!

I belong to the first generation of Indians to partake in the sexual revolution this nation is going through, and I am proud of this fact. We are leaving the old taboos and dogmas behind, which is great. But the question is: Who decides what comes next? What will sexuality look like in a sexually liberated India?

My generation and the ones that have followed have had little to no education on sexuality, but we increasingly have more freedom to explore it and have access to this infinite resource called the internet. And on the internet, the one primary source of information about all things sex isinternet porn.

We are either directly or indirectly using internet porn as our primary guide to navigating this new sexual landscape we all find ourselves in.

This book is my journey into understanding how sexuality works, how porn impacts it, and everything else there is to know about sexuality and porn. I was curious to know how porn is impacting our sex lives. And I was especially interested in finding out about the impact of internet porn on our youngsters and kidsthe first generation of Indians who are growing up on the internet from the day they are born.

This book is the result of that journey. This is the book I wish I had read many years ago. It will change the way you look at your sexuality, and it will change the way you look at porn. If you are a parent, it will change the way you look at parenting.

This book has 17 chapters. The first 12 chapters are divided into two parts, a short story loosely based on real-life events, followed by an illustration and then the science and research that delve into the topic of the chapter. The last five chapters do not have the short stories.

The short stories do not cover the entire scope of the chapter; they are only meant as an entertaining prologue to the topic of the chapter.

The science and research section of each chapter is told through different voices, only because those voices sound a lot more interesting than my own voice does. Any figures they give and any claims these voices make are backed up by sources at the end of the book.

These voices belong to:

Info dude: He is our everyday dude, the only difference being that he knows a lot of stuff. He thinks practically, and he says it as it is. He is in this book to help; he is here to keep things interesting and relevant. Trust the dude.

Confirmed sceptic: We all have him in our lives and in our heads. Mr Sceptic will give voice to all the scepticism that comes to your mind when reading the book. He might be annoying at times, but his intentions are noble.

The Brain: Is the brain. Our brain is complicated, it is scarcely understood and in it lie the reasons for how our sexuality works. The Brain gives our brain a much-needed voice. Listen carefully, when it speaks.

Cultured prude: Oh we know Sir Culture, dont we? Cultured prude is not necessarily always a man, but usually is. He/she is that omnipresent voice in India which opposes anything that has the word sex in it. This voice is here to give context.

Guest appearances by: Savita Bhabhi and Kamasutra.

Following are the Indian doctors who have given their indepth insights in the book:

Dr Sharmila Majumdar: MS Human Sexuality, M.Phil Clinical Psychology, PhD (Behaviour Modification), Super Specialisation in Male and Female Sexual and Mental Health. Awards: Best Female Sexologist in Telangana, Hyderabad; Best Paper Presentation in Female Sexual Dysfunction, Most Promising Female Health Practitioner in Sexology and Psychoanalysis. Based in Hyderabad.

Dr Shwetank Bansal: MBBS, MD Psychiatry, PDO, C-TMS (Harvard, USA), CCBT Psychiatrist, Neuropsychiatrist, Geriatric Psychiatrist, Addiction Psychiatrist, Psychotherapist, Sexologist, 12 years experience. Based in Delhi.
