Frank Burtnett is a veteran counselor, teacher, education association officer, and consultant who was the founder and principal consultant of Education Now, an educational consulting, research, and resource development firm located in Springfield, Virginia, and Rockport, Maine. Over his career, Burtnett served as the executive director of the National Association for College Admission Counseling and associate executive director of the American Counseling Association. Early in his career, he was a teacher, counselor, and student services director with Fairfax County (Virginia) Public Schools and a state supervisor of counseling and student services with the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
He is the author of the Bound-for-College Guidebook, 2nd edition, the companion publication to this book, published by Rowman & Littlefield Education. His most recent book is Career Errors: Straight Talk about the Steps and Missteps of Career Development, 2nd edition.
In addition, Burtnett wrote the Parents Guide to the College Admission Process, a publication of the National Association for College Admission Counseling, and developed the Beta College Guidance Center and Beta Career Guidance Center, two innovative Internet-based information banks used by the more than 240,000 student members of the National Beta Club. He coauthored the AT&T publication Selecting the Right College, which has been distributed to more than one million students nationally. He regularly conducts interactive webinars for parents, educators, and members of professional membership organizations.
He serves as an adjunct professor on the counselor education faculty of the School of Education and Human Services of Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. He has also developed and presented seminars on educational and career development topics for numerous institution, agency, organization, and private sector sponsors.
Burtnett has been recognized by his professional peers as a fellow in the American Counseling Association (ACA) and elected to the National Association of Personnel Services (NAPS) Hall of Fame. Further, he has been honored by Shippensburg University with the Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumni Award and with service awards by the Boy Scouts of America, the National Career Development Association, and the University of VirginiaNorthern Center.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Shippensburg University (Pennsylvania) and Master of Arts and Doctor of Education degrees from George Washington University (Washington, DC) and has been awarded the National Certified Counselor (NCC) and National Certified Career Counselor (NCCC) credentials of the National Board for Certified Counselors. He is a registered counselor in the state of Maine.
