Jon Nelsen - Solar Energy: Homeowners Guide to Solar Panels

This might not be the first solar book you read, but I hope with the information provided in this book, it can be the last. I consider myself a solar power junkie, because I love learning about the industry and studying how it works and whats next. Like many people who work in the solar industry, I began as a customer seeking answers. I wanted to transition to solar because I wanted more control over a portion of my life that seemed out of my control, my ever changing energy costs. Some months my bill was exorbitant and other months it was even higher and I could never figure out the rhyme or reason for these changes. It turns out that this is the case for most of America, and so I started selling solar myself and wanted to create a book to help answer some questions I had when I began searching for the best solution to my problem.

I love talking about solar. I hate talking about myself. So heres six quick things about me and my work. In, out, nobody gets hurt.

1. If we lose power one more time, Im starting my own electric company! Famous last words right?! Living near the woods is great, till a tree falls on a power line. During one such frequent episode, I started looking at ways to protect my family from annoying outages. Now, no windstorm, big or small, can stop me from helping you do the same.
2. I graduated from Liberty University with degrees in both Finance & Psychology. Fell asleep during more classes than I can count, but now listen to economics podcasts in the car for fun... Lifes weird like that!
3. I love sports, and unfortunately for my stress, I love Philadelphia Sports. Go Birds!
4. Im passionate about hiking and nature, but more for the enjoyment of being out of the office than a love of the earth.
5. I sell solar because I stink at selling something I dont believe in. Solar in a nutshell: | save money | save the planet | increase home value | no unexpected price hikes | own the panels
6. I dont advertise this fact, but Id do this job for free. Its one of those rare jobs that you feel good about, even on the hard days. I love helping people and when I believe in something I cant shut up about it! Also, aside from selling solar, Im pretty much unemployable.

I hope this book makes the idea of solar a little less intimidating and provides clarity to the process. Trust me when I say that the utility monopolies have tried their best to make generating your own solar energy sound scary, expensive, and weird, but its only because they are afraid of people no longer depending on them. There is nothing more empowering than becoming your own power plant using clean renewable energy from the sun, except for maybe saving money each month doing it. Solar lets you invest the same money you were paying to a utility provider into an asset you own that will benefit your family for a lifetime. This book can be read front too back or as a reference to help you brush up on areas you are unsure about. Each chapter talks about specific areas of the process to go solar as well as the technology and terminology behind it all. I hope you enjoy!
