About the Series 4 Exam
Congratulations! You are on your way to becoming a Series 4 registered options principal licensed to supervise a member firm's option business. The Series 4 exam will be presented in a 125-question multiple-choice format. Each candidate will have three hours to complete the exam. A score of 70% or higher is required to pass the Series 4 exam. The Series 4 is as much a knowledge test as it is a reading test. Your textbook and software from The Securities Institute will ensure that you have the required knowledge to pass the test and that you are confident in the application of the knowledge during the exam.
IMPORTANT EXAM NOTE
The Series 4 exam may use FINRA, NASD, or both to describe itself or its rules. Test takers are advised to be aware of this and to treat the two terms as interchangeable. This text in most instances uses the most up to date term FINRA.
FINRA has eliminated the compliance registered option principal (CROP) and Senior registered option principal (SROP) designations. The Series 4 exam may still use these terms. This text uses the most up to date term registered option and security futures principal (ROSFP) and makes note of the former duties of the CROP and SROP. Test takers should also use the terms ROP and ROSFP as interchangeable.
Taking the Series 4 Exam
The Series 4 exam is presented in multiple-choice format on a touch screen computer known as the PROCTOR system. No computer skills are required, and candidates will find that the test screen works in the same way as an ordinary ATM machine. Each test is made up of 125 questions that are randomly chosen from a test bank of thousands of questions. Each Series 4 exam will have several practice questions that do not count toward the final score. The test has a time limit of three hours and is designed to provide enough time for all candidates to complete the exam. Each Series 4 exam will comprise questions that focus on the following areas:
Function 1: Supervise the Opening of New Options Accounts; | 21 Questions |
Function 2: Supervise Options Account Activities; | 25 Questions |
Function 3: Supervise General Options Trading; | 30 Questions |
Function 4: Supervise Options Communications; | 9 Questions |
Function 5: Implement Practices and Adhere to Regulatory Requirements; | 12 Questions |
Function 6: Supervise Associated Persons and Personnel Management Activities. | 28 Questions |
TOTAL | 125 Questions |
How to Prepare for the Series 4 Exam
