Graham Bell , The Permaculture Way Mike Hoag has written a long-awaited down-to-earth treatise on the topic of Permaculture plant guilds from a perspective that is both refreshing and easily understandable by both novice and professional alike. His presentation of plant guild examples brings a greater level of clarity to a topic of interest to all who are trying to enable a better planet for not just themselves and their descendants, but for all other residents of the natural world Bryce Ruddock, Integrated Forest Gardening A true polymath, Mike Hoag is the most complete Permaculturist I have ever known (or heard of) and easily one of the best permies of all time. Humble, hilarious, and thoroughly holistic, this is the most significant Permaculture book since the Permaculture Designers Manual. E. James Spielmaker, Hugelsculptures, HOBO, and Flintopia Mike Hoags permaculture masterpiece is humanitys rosetta stone between nature and society. I read it, and now I will lay it down in loamy earth, my hands performing its deeds, and I will be the happier for it.

1. Introduction
This is a gardening book for people who dont want to learn from a gardening book. Its a book for people who want to learn, have fun, become great gardeners, and transform their landscapes by actually doing stuff. And i ts also a book for people who want easy, productive, sustainable landscapes, and who want to do that without using a bunch of plastics, poisons, and petroleum products that contaminate our food and harm ecosystems.
Its for people who want healthy, healing landscapes that work with nature, rather than going to war with nature. The problem with learning by doing, is sometimes our results are disappointing. Its easy to watch a bunch of YouTube videos and copy all the cool flashy projects. But often these are trending because theyre more advanced projects, and they might not really work on our soils, our landscapes, or our lives. When were beginners, we dont have the experience to know which things are really worth doing. So the point of this book is to do simple, easy highly effective projects that will be great for beginners, and work well in almost every situation.
Its designed to help you learn the right things, like how to get lasting results for the least effort. This set of projects will help you avoid big mistakes while you learn, and youll end up with a beautiful, productive landscape that actually works for nature and your life. But the book ISNT just a bunch of projects you can do. Its a full learning by doing course. Because some techniques that are great for beginners cant help you progress. For example, using grow bags or buying full-sized potted tomato plants are great for beginners, but you never learn how to tend seedlings, build your soil, and manage a larger garden.
