I ts about time I met you! Those were the first words I spoke to Haylie Pomroy, the nutritionist at the practice I had recently joined in Burbank, California. Haylie and I had work schedules that didnt coincide, but I kept hearing about this brilliant nutritionist from my patients and the other doctors in the practice. When I finally met Haylie, I had to agreethere was indeed something exceptional about her. Never mind her magnetic personality and the deep caring she obviously has for her patients. The condition of the patients themselves was what stunned me; they were all so happy, satisfied, and on the fast track to health after enjoying significant, even stunning, weight loss through Haylies program. She was getting results.

I began to refer my own patients to her, especially obese patients with diabetes and hypertension, for whom weight loss was literally a matter of life and death. They would come back to me at their next appointments raving about Haylie and the real, delicious, and satisfying food they were getting to eat. They would even share recipes with me, and so many of them thanked me sincerely for referring them to Haylie. I had never seen such compliance with a diet program before.

At first, after seeing the kinds of results Haylie was getting with her clients, I wondered if this was just another unsustainable weight-loss program that would result in frustration and failure for these patients, many of whom had lost and gained back weight time and time again. But once Haylie walked me through the program, I began to see that couldnt be further from the truth. Haylies program is medically sound and grounded in real science, not untested theories or anecdotal evidence. There is nothing mysterious about it. Haylie has an intimate knowledge of how our metabolism works and how biochemical changes triggered by diet can speed it up or slow it down. Best of all, her program works quickly, thoroughly, and the results last. People werent gaining back the weight.

One of the reasons it works so well is that it is so easy and pleasant to follow. The program uses a system of ingenious meal placement and timing that creates a workout for the metabolism. Ive seen weight fall off, cholesterol levels go down, blood sugar stabilize, sleep improve, and depression lift. And not just temporarilythese results have stood the test of time. Haylie always says, Let food work for you, and she knows how to make that happen, even for the clients whose excess weight has been resistant to other programs.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2010, 35.7 percent of adults in the United States were obese, and 34.2 percent were overweight. That means a full 69 percent of U.S. adults weighed more than they should, compromising their health and well-being. Weight problems have reached epidemic proportions, and we have no time to lose. In my practice, I see the tragic side effects: chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, depression, and a lifestyle that is less enjoyable and active than it could be. I see patients falling prey to the vicious cycle of radical dieting and binge eating, unable to escape their battles with food and the weight that just wont come off anymore. I also see the psychological cost of weight problems and associated chronic disease, and it is significant indeed.
