Introduction

Zen art of drawing or Zen doodling really helped me a lot to penetrate into that oasis of peace that we all carry inside of us and is buried under the everyday concerns and disturbances. I meditate for many years, but not on a daily basis just because I often cant just sit doing nothing. So, Zen doodling is a perfect blend of meditation where you are "doing something" that is creating the drawings, after which you can somehow use it. You can even paint or draw a true artistic picture without any former knowledge of drawing.

It is attractive and engaging to draw a variety of complex motifs that come from our subconscious to paper squares, popularly known as tiles. But even more fun is to fill a variety of known forms with more or less tangled Zen patterns and motifs. In the book "Zen Doodle Cats" you will find 5 amazing cat drawings drawn by the art of Zen doodling. Kittens in this book are in their respective positions, gazing across the back, stretching or proudly and elegantly standing on their paws.

The essence of the book "Zen Doodle Cats" is not in the written instructions but in drawing instructions. Thus, each of the 5 amazing drawings of cats contains the entire process of drawing the motifs and patterns presented in pictures of which some represent a magnified certain body parts of our Zen cats. In this way, you will not have difficulties to draw any of the 5 excellent Zen cats presented in this book. To sum up, in this book you will find the following:

  • How to draw cats in various postures
  • 5 amazing patterns of cats drawn by Zen art of doodling
  • Zen doodles you never saw before
  • Symbolism of cats
  • Cats in Feng Shui
Chapter 1-Cats through history

Cat for the first time becomes a member of the household in ancient Egypt - photo 3

Cat for the first time becomes a member of the household in ancient Egypt, about 5,000 years ago. Thanks to its implacable role in the hunt for fish and birds and in a defense of fertile areas along the banks of the Nile from pests, cats in Egyptian culture are treated almost as mythical creatures.

One of the major deities of ancient Egypt was Bast, the goddess with the head of a cat, thanks to which the cat in Egypt had the status of the sacred animal. In ancient Egypt, Bast was a symbol of protection, fertility, and motherhood. In her honor was built a magnificent temple of Bubastis east of the Nile. The cat was in Egypt respected and adored animal to the extent that in the event of her death, even if it is accidental, the perpetrator was sentenced to death. Cats were also buried and mummified like Pharaoh, with highest honors, usually with a mask on its face and a body wrapped in a colored cloth or in a specially made miniature sarcophagus.

The worship of cats was transferred to ancient Greece and the historian Herodotus claimed that the Greeks stood by the fire and kept the flame as a cat wouldnt rush into it. Worshiping cats is not characteristic only to the ancient Egyptian and Greece civilization.

According to the legend, the prophet Muhammad once cut off his sleeve where his favorite cat Muezza slept as he didnt want to wake her. Worship and respect that were cats enjoying was also shown in the famous Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Although the Hindu religion respects life in every manifestation, the Hindus were particularly fond of cats, and it was expected of them to take care at least of one cat during their lifetime.

In some religions, including Christian, cats, due to their independent and opinionated nature was considered to be the animals that are in cahoots with the devil. However, these opinions was eventually abandoned, due to the fact that they were indispensable fighters against rats and other pests and have become frequent residents of monasteries and churches.

Cats have been favorite pets during the Chinese Song Dynasty, especially long-haired cats that catch mice and rats and cats with yellow-white hair that were due to their irresistible resemblance to the lions reared as pets.

In Japan, the famous cat is Maneki Neko (the beckoning cat), the cat that brings good luck. This kind of cat is predominantly presented in the sitting position, alternately raising and lowering its paw. Legend says that the Japanese ruler, intrigued by this kind gesture of a cat, thought of it as an invitation to approach her. He walked toward the animal and just a few seconds later, lightning struck the place where he previously stood. As that cat saved the rulers life, it was considered to be a symbol of luck in Japan.

Symbol of a cat in Feng Shui

You might be interested to know that a cat symbol in Feng Shui marks the arrival of wealth so you may put your drawing of a Zen kitten in your wallet, for example. Cat symbol attracts money, happiness, prosperity and new opportunities. Cats will scare all evil spirits that are poorly targeted toward your success. The symbol of a cat in an office should be placed on a desk while in the home it needs to stand in the southeastern or northeastern part of the house.

Two cats in pair represent the ideal protection and are attracting revenues. If you follow the Feng Shui tips when setting these symbols, then you should bear in mind the element of the area where you put them. For example, if you have a metal cat figure place it in an area where metal element rules, for example, metal rack or a shelf. In any case, the symbol of a cat will protect your incomes.
