COVID-19

We have re-checked every business in this book before publication to ensure that it is still open after the COVID-19 outbreak. However, the economic and social impacts of COVID-19 will continue to be felt long after the outbreak has been contained, and many businesses, services and events referenced in this guide may experience ongoing restrictions. Some businesses may be temporarily closed, have changed their opening hours and services, or require bookings; some unfortunately could have closed permanently. We suggest you check with venues before visiting for the latest information.

Welcome to Andaluca

I grew up in the Mlaga-province mountain village of Cmpeta, dancing flamenco at local ferias, picking up a malagueo accent, navigating meat-mad Spanish menus as a life-long vegetarian and studying maps of Andalucian peaks, parks and rivers, then later lived in Cdiz province. Cdiz Costa de la Luz remains my favourite place in the world (its a close contest between Tarifa and Vejer de la Frontera) and, while Cdiz, Mlaga, Crdoba and Seville are all fabulous, theres no city quite like magical Granada, with the edge-of-the-world villages of the Alpujarras just beyond. Andaluca, with its zest for life, will always be my home.

CAPTIVATING CITIES

Cities are where Andalucians gregarious warmth is at its most intense. The noisy racket of mid-morning cafes and the festive atmosphere on after-dark streets equally affirm peoples love of life here. Past often drab outer suburbs, youll invariably reach a historic core of fine old buildings, well-preserved monuments and pretty parks, thick with bars, cafes and restaurants along palm- and orange-tree-lined streets. Take your time to wander and soak it all in.

Granada

Theres nowhere quite like magical Granada, the final bastion (from 1249 to 1492) of Spains Moorish culture. The Alhambra palace-fortress is among the worlds most exquisite works of Islamic art, while contemporary Granada is a thriving Spanish city of culture, counterculture, tranquil teahouses and overflowing bars.
