Complex Adaptive Systems, Resilience and Security in Cameroon
Complex Adaptive Systems, Resilience and Security in Cameroon comprehensively maps and analyses Cameroons security architecture to determine its resilience.
The author examines the key actors involved in Cameroons security and evaluates the organisational structures, before analysing the different security systems that arise from the interplay between the two. He also shows how these security networks can be better conceived as complex adaptive systems, interdependent on other environmental, economic and societal systems. In this regard, security actors become security agents. Finally, arguing that security should be pursed from a resilience perspective, this book seeks to comment on the contemporary situation in Cameroon and its possible trajectory for the future.
Providing a timely assessment of security in Cameroon, this book will be of interest to scholars and students of African politics and Security Studies.
Manu Lekunze is a Researcher, focusing on Africa in the international system, national and regional security systems, the geopolitics of changing technology and complexity science in International Relations. This book is derived from my PhD thesis. In this regard, I would like to acknowledge the contributions of my PhD supervisor Professor Bruce Baker. He introduced me to complexity science and read many drafts of my thesis. His feedback and motivation through the years has been instrumental to shaping the ideas in this book. Dr Simon Massey was my second supervisor. His occasional feedback and general discussion on my progress was also vital to my PhD and consequently this book.
Dr Alex Thompson was the African expert at my Progress Review Panels throughout my PhD. His yearly feedback on the progress of my PhD has been crucial in shaping the ideas in this book.
I am especially grateful to my interviewees. Their kindness and generosity in sharing their knowledge and experiences with me is exemplary. This book would not have been written without them.
